Platinum is a lot easier to retain than QF WP as well - two trips to JED on Ethiad gets me about 900 VA SCs thus requal - same flights on CX crediting to QF gets me 960 SCs so only 2/3 towards QF WP requal...

You do need to do the 8 sectors though.

I did get 560 VA SCs for PEK-AUH-YYZ in EY in J earlier this year. Only cost about $4000 AUD too. Would have made plat anyway but the partner gold (and possibly plat) has that particular trip to thank. :)

I have been in contact with Brett Godfrey, letting him know I finally relented. His comment "Boy the world had 'turned' hasn't it!"

I'm a gold QFF and sent off my status match email last week, but I was a bit absent minded and just forwarded on my latest statement, not realising it doesn't say when your status expires (odd that it doesn't say this) - what proof have others been sending, scanned copy of FF cards? Didn't want to send another email in case it delayed my status match.

(also, first post but long time lurker -hi!)

Not sure if anyone has personal experience, but would a Qatar Airways Privilege Club Burgundy membership be status matched to Silver?

For anyone unfamiliar, Qatar's membership levels are, in order: Member, Burgundy, Silver, Gold

I'd suggest you get in quick with an application and let them say yes or no. Wonder too long and the promo might finish

Hi Sye, (wasn't that a line off Caddyshack?), welcome to AFF!

Hi, Sye. I did a screen clip of my online QFF screen... it was faster than scanning my card (OK: I was too lazy to walk across the office to the scanner. But it *was* faster). The QFF Membership Status section shows Current status and "Status Reassessment will occur:", which is a dead giveaway.

The same screen also showed my LTS status, and I figured that couldn't hurt.

Ahhh, that's a much better idea - why didn't I do that? Haha. Do you (or maybe a virgin rep on AFF) think it's worth sending another email?

Mmm. Only problem is I'm not a Burgundy yet! lol

Was just wondering (and partly living in hope..)

Now I know why there were people fussing around the desk at the Velocity lounge last week. So I could have handed them my Marco Polo Diamond/Oneworld Emerald card and got Velocity Platinum on the spot?

Anyway, did it via email so from what I am reading here I should get it eventually.

So the morning of my first Virgin flight since my status match.

I'm flying from Sydney airport, and Virgin has a premium departure lounge entry, for Business, Premium Economy and Gold flyers (Platinum quite clearly excluded :)). I had heard it was near the valet service, but couldn't find it.

Instead I went into main departures hall and used the "usual" priority check-in for golds. There was no queue, so straight in. My matched status has still not come up on Virgin's systems yet, and so there was a little confusion, but the Gold temp card still got me moved up from row 12 to row 5, thank you very much.

Seeing as I have never flown Virgin and had lounge access before, I asked where it was. From this information, I decided to look a bit harder for the premium entry, so went back outside. It's all the way down the end with it's own gentle ramp and a little sign that's obviously intended for those with premium eyesight.... :p

Went to desk there, showed them my boarding pass and gold card, and welcomed in. Here's the best bit: they have their own single security lane into the airport. Not sure if the security people here were wearing smarter uniforms than usual, but they certainly seemed more jolly than usual. They even offered to look after my duty free for me.....

Again, no one else there at all, so straight in. This is all just before 7am.

Summary is that despite my matched status not being updated in my profile, and at least one check-in staffer having not seen a temporary card before, I was treated to all the extras that a gold gets. I'm particularly impressed by the dedicated entry, great way to save time.

Lounge was bustling, but still room for more. And the coffee not too bad.... about to try my second one just to be sure.

I can certainly see a few more Virgin flights coming from me. I'm pretty close to getting my QF Gold renewed just over half way through the year, so a bit more sharing of my flights seems the go. Ah, some actual competition gotta be good.

(A small niggle, at the moment can only check in on mobile between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.... Despite flying from Sydney, apparently as I'm not flying to either of the other destinations listed, couldn't do it. I find this a little odd. Sure, you can check in online, but I usually do not have access to a printer.)

I think you will find that they have not updated their signage to include Platinum yet.:)

actually I asked about that, and they said that platinum flyers use the lounge too much, so they can't have access....;)

Yeah, they are probably building us a separate one to keep the riff raff away from us.;)

Just received an email to confirm that I have now been matched to Velocity Platinum. [My girlfriend also applied for a status match to Platinum]

So once that comes through, 2 of us plus 6 of our friends, having drinking parties at Virgin's The Lounge. Thanks VA ;)

Re: Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

I just got to work after a seminar this morning and see an Express Post 500g satchel (plastic) from VA.

Open it to find not the expected (I thought it might be my Gold membership kit - nice and quick); to find that it has:
  1. VFF With Compliments Slip, pre-printed but hand signed by Phil Gunter, with the words "As a valued Velocity Gold Member, please accept this gift in celebration of the launch of the new Velocity Frequent Flyer program" as well as WCS from The Lounge Team, Brisbane
  2. Book by Luke Mangan, personally signed
  3. metal ties and Gold cards (x2)
  4. BNE Lounge Manager mobile number (on Express Post envelope)
I know which one I am going to treasure most ;)

Did anybody else get that today or am I lucky:?:

Meant to tell you that John said to say "great to have you come across!"
:D
The only problem is, I won't be one of the invitees if he brings Sir Richard out and has a hanger dinner for their top 100 Qld Platinums :( - but some of the members here might be. I'll work on trying to re-qualify Gold.

Just had a lovely chat to Annette Viljoen and thank you for the Luke Mangan book!
