Finally, GOLD GOLD GOLD for me and my better half (from BD/AF Gold) after a week of waiting.

I really hope that all of us who are fortunate enough to be comped would put cash to DJ rather than QF as a gratitude.

Like I've said in another thread - I have already "rewarded" DJ for the comp. Tomorrow I fly to SYD on my own dime. I could have chosen Jetstar, I could have chosen Qantas, Instead I first went to the DJ site and booked. $450 (roughly) in revenue to them instead of probably quite a bit less if I have had chosen Qantas or Jetstar.

I'm no martyr. This is one small example of what a status match can do. Without the status match I would have been flying Qantas (even if it was more than $450)...

My application was by email on first day, going from QFF SG and on a preexisting Velocity Red. I don't know when DJ actioned the application, but my online Velocity account showed Gold on Wednesday 31 Aug, and the "stuff coming" email arrived on 1 Sep. That sort of speed would get an elephant stamp on an average week, but given the number of applications they must be processing I'm especially impressed.

Just need to find a moment to get to the lounge... not flying anywhere for a week or three.

I wouldn't have applied for the status match if I wasn't seriously contemplating switching from QF to VA. Flying with them next week SYD/MEL (would normally book QF). Whether I move 100% will depend on whether I can sustain the same status with VA as I can with QF (Gold with Platinum a 50/50 bet) and ability to redeem points for J seats on international routes for famil travel... Still doing my due diligence!

So I'm one of these people who had flown DJ once etc. Finally decided to take the plunge and apply for the status match this time. Had a photo of my card + activity statement.

Emailed it around midday yesterday, just checked tonight and they've already processed it. Shows platinum on the velocity site which I haven't really been on before. Cool.

Maybe it depends on what you email them? Or it really is just random...

I've flown PE with VA PER - east coast return a few times, submitted my match to Platinum on Friday 26th around lunchtime. Checked on line, still no match.

Mine changed the day before yours I think Liam and I haven't received a welcome email either. Mind you I haven't got my Luke Mangan cookbook for my previous gold status either! The platinum gift better be good... ;)

It's not a cookbook it's a autobiography, so I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing:)

Oh and that was the Platinum gift as well :)

Guys I am a simple man so please don't kick me to death if I ask a stupid question.

MP Diamond if matched should get me Velocity Platinum right?

Do Plat members get lounge access regardless of class being flown?

I did look on Velocity site and under Platinum it lists kerbside access to The Lounge in Sydney but I cannot see mention of Melbourne Lounge.

Oh and my peepers don't work so well either so I am doubly disadvantaged.

Yes!

Look on the line below that in Travel Benefits and you will see Virgin Australia Lounge

Re: Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

Absolutely nothing, other than "enhance" away lot's of the good stuff. Go get 'em Virgin. Although next I'll be hitting you up about your international alliance partners, need to find out if you can get me to Europe/US as seamlessly as QF can with oneWorld.

That's what I'm interested to know. I've applied for a Platinum matched based on my top level status on another carrier (notzac may have sold me on using the Virgin group when he was lasted here in LON) ; however... I've still had no response at all, even though everyone else I know who has applied after me has already been matched. I guess they're only interested in those matching from QF.

Applied from QF WP but nothing here yet either. They must have heaps to go through. Not really fussed as long as it comes through in the end.

Gold and Platinum get anytime access - so you don't need to even be flying DJ to access the lounge, or flying at all for that matter!

There is no curbside access in Melbourne, due to the location of the lounge. There is priority security screening as an attempt to make up for this. They really need to relocate security in Melbourne though, so that there is one security check before the lounge and all the gates, as the current set up is not great.

I very much agree with this. In the medium term the VA terminal at MEL needs a major overhaul. In the interim surely there's some way of bringing the security lines closer to check in and freeing up more post security space - i'm sure they could pay for it by adding a few more retailers airside.

The concourse to gates 11 and beyond is very wide - they could easily relocate the retailers who are in the area down from the check in escalators there. Then just close the two existing security areas and replace with one lot at the bottom of the check in escalator. There would then also be additional room for retailers where the two security check points used to be. There might also be room for a direct security path from the priority check in to the lounge - would take a little it of work but could be done. Alternatively could relocate the priority check in desk to where the current service desk and kiosks are, build a bridge directly over to the lounge from there! Of course they could still just have the priority security queue to keep costs down!

I was thinking about this the other day too, what your saying could work. I'm hoping that the Melbourne terminal is next due for a revamp. Not much has changed since they initially started using it. I'm not sure about the bridge leading directly into the lounge, but I like the idea of moving security to the bottom of the staircase and then moving those retail stores where security currently is.

I was thinking the other day it couldn't be to hard to have a walkway from the lounge to the gates.
