Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion - Closed 30 Sep 11

My Platinum status match came through earlier in the week. To repay the kindness, I have just made my first DJ booking since 2008. Was going to book on QF, so this is a lost sale to them. Interesting to see how it goes.

I don't see SQ giving VA Platinums access to the SilverKris lounges (which have showers), unless you fly SQ J or F. It's one of the sides that we *Gs (and even SQ*Gs) have come to "embrace" as part of SQ's reluctant participation in *A. As uve said many times, there will be much dangerous precedent and uproar if VA Plats are granted SilverKris lounge access on Y tickets
I don't know who started it, perhaps some VA faithful, but why oh why would SQ single out VA Platinums and grant them access to a lounge a *G is NOT entitled to access when flying economy?

Logged into velocity account to find status showing PLATINUM! :)

Applied 5/9 via email. Scanned QFF card.

Showing review date of 10/9/12.

No confirmation email or package, but nonetheless impressed thus far.

Eagerly awaiting a nice pressie! ;)

my status match came through yesterday. seems like it took a week or two. happy to fly them where I can, especially on the basis of this offer.

looking forward to seeing their lounge in BNE tomorrow.

Hi nlagalle, due to the amount of status matches that have been requested, Platinum's and Gold's have been sent full packs, but we weren't able to send the same to Silvers. If you call the membership phone number that is on the card, you can request to have luggage tags sent out.

Thanks VA, I'll give them a call!

Sorry but I've gotta laugh. 60 odd pages into the thread a Virgin company rep shows up on the forum and answers one question about...bag tags :D What about all the other questions people have been asking including ones about the apparently random and/or inconsistent nature of the status match processing  Or is that matter 'commercial-in -confidence':?:

I'd suggest they probably don't know the exact nature of how it is being done so probably better not to answer. Just a guess.

I'm guessing that while it everyone is still within the four week window that they stated, there isn't much to say.

So I thought I would take advantage of this and book my partner on his first Virgin flight with his new status. Right, the last plane from Sydney to Adelaide on a Friday night is 6pm! Virgin, if you want business to use your service then please provide a proper business service! 6pm is stupidly early to close your flights!

I agree with you about that flight. Thankfully it is moving slightly later is now at 18:15 in December. Honestly qantas doesn't have much of a viable alternative 18:30 (moved to 18:40 in december) and 20:45. Getting out from SYD CBD there is not much difference between 18:30/40 and 18:00/15. Waiting until 20:45 is soul destroying.

Yes your status is on the boarding pass. Can't help you with MEL. It's a place I avoid at all costs.

Slightly OT but if you avoid MEL then what do you think about SYD :?:

SYD is 20 mins closer to the CBD than MEL...

Personally I don't find either DOM airport any different - lounge facilities the same basically and delays are the same at both airports. I have a driver meet me at both airports so no parking fees that I have to consider - overall there is no difference in experience at either airport other than at SYD I am tired getting up early and in MEL I am looking forward to getting home.

My Velocity account just started showing as Gold :p. Applied via email on the 30th Aug.

If you need things in a quicker than the promised service levels, then I would suggest a PM may help, expecting a reps response for an individual's issues is unreasonable IMHO. If its for something thats not clear or published in terms of expectations, that is a different story.

But that is exactly what the Virgin rep did, answered one individuals questions about luggage tags but did not answer the question that has occupied about 33% of members posts on this thread. (which is now 62 pages long)

Applied in person on 27 Aug at Westfield, not a peep since then...

I was issued a temporary card and luggage tags on the spot, but I won't take it as official (i.e. booking anything) until I've it confirmed.

Starting to get a bit concerned.

Has it come through yet?

I applied in person at Westfield on Wednesday 7th Sep. My account was showing Platinum when I checked on the evening of Friday 9th - so it updated sometime between taking a 5pm flight on DJ out of Sydney (where I still showed as Gold), and when I checked that night.

There was nothing published about tags, so an answer was not mandatory but received, how long status match process may take, we all know! The process, does not matter if it is within the published expectation.

There is no obligation on any member to answer questions here including reps, further comment and complaints along this line will be referred to the mod team for action, we should be grateful for the interaction but not expect it, given this is not an official channel for any company rep.

The Virgin rep actually stated this to someone early in the thread.

Why the matches come through in any particular order could be for any one of many reasons that are not easily defined.
