Hi - just interested to know about how long it is taking for the matches to come through. Sent mine in for Platinum Friday a week ago, and my wife for Gold a week ago.
Not in a massive rush, more interest really.

Cheers

Seen some very mixed results in this thread. People got matched withing days others (me included) have been waiting for over a week. As I said before I am not in a rush as long as it does come through I am happy.

Im already G but Mr tinkybelle was matched EK G within a week others that i sent in for ( QF G) are still waiting.

As another point of reference. I applied on the first day Thursday 25th @3pm matched to WP on Tuesday 30th August. Shrek applied Saturday 27th August @3pm not matched yet.
As others have said, seems very random. We are not in a desperate hurry as first flights not until October.
The wonders of IT ;)

My better half applied 8 days ago and hasn't heard a word. It was a match from KLM Gold though (although I can't see why it would take any longer... they just look at the card?)

When heading into the lounge yesterday, my keen eyes spotted a 'cheat sheet' behind the counter. It was quite long, and basically was the list of what would be matched with what.

Thought I would be pushing my luck to ask for a copy to photograph/scan and put here so didn't... but conceivably some of the more "foreign" cards may have taken a bit more time to assess and match. Shouldn't be an issue now though ...

BTW - has anyone tried to match Ansett status? :D

Here is my theory on how they would assess the status match...

They would have a team of 2 or 3 working on it, with each person responsible for say processing 30 applications per day. As a new batch of 30 apps come through the door, they would get assigned to that person. When that person finishes with those 30, they move on to the next batch of 30 (or whatever number you care to insert here).

Suppose you apply as application #29 of Group A. Then two minutes later your wife applies as application # 2 of Group B. All of sudden, you're both in very different streams. Group A person has to wait for 28 applications to be processed before they go Goldy Gold, whereas his wife get approved virtually straight away to perhaps Platinum because she is second cab of the rank.

And I think 30 would be a conservative batch...

Combined that with the fact that there are multiple avenues for applying for this match (Westfield, in-lounge, online) and you've got yourself a doozy of backlog, with no apparent order or logic.

;)

Re: Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

I emailed my application on August 25 and have heard nothing as yet. Should I call, email or wait it out? The VA website still advertises the match.

I am about to book my next few months travelling both domestic and overseas and a VA card could sway me on which airlines to use.

BTW - has anyone tried to match Ansett status? :D

Ooohh.... could salivate at that one. If VA would match an Ansett LM, they'd get me for pretty much the same period. :!:

(Who would have thought: when I picked up LM with AN, it never occurred to me that I would outlive the airline).

My QFF SG match was completed in five days or less; I applied on 25Aug and the review date is 30Aug. Mrs Themaiz applied on 26Aug also for match to QFF SG. She was not already a member of Velocity, so she had to join that at the same time.... we just checked now and it's still showing her as "member". That's fine, better later than sooner for her.

BTW, I went to Westfield Level 3 (Sydney) yesterday... was passing through and thought I'd check out the stand. There were 3 very pleasant VA people there, all in good spirits, but no throng of punters doing a match. Apparently, and inexplicably, qualifiable people do come past and check out the deal, then leave with an "I'll get back to you".

Huh? What's to think about? (which is what the VA staffers said, most politely!).

Also most impressed with the VA ads that were running on the screens.

Two weeks prior to losing WP I get matched to Flying Blue Plat. Not much use I think as Sky Team are not much chop in this part of the world.

Today I get matched to Virgin Plat off the back of Flying Blue Plat. Status match to status match!

Understand it perfectly. If you actually have no intention of flying Virgin (for whatever reason) what is the point of yet another membership in another program...it all gets a bit much. So you match your Gold or Platinum or Diamond membership with Velocity just to see it expire in a year. :(I only applied for the match because I think I will use as I am now doing some flying with Virgin and if I like them that will likely increase. As a Oneworld Emerald and *A Gold, why else would I want it?

Actually, I can answer that one. ;)

* as a self-employed consulting person, I don't know when someone who's engaged me will require me to fly VA.

* as a result of doing the match, I've engaged with an org who regularly flies their people with VA. I'd be happy to take the work *and* enjoy VA hospitality, so I'm now motivated to chase VA flying opportunity (which I was not before the status match)

* two weeks ago I did, very unexpectedly, a six-leg flight to US on DL - got back the day that the VA SM was announced. VA membership would have eliminated the need to scam my way into the DL lounge. I know the partner alliance generates business; in the last ten years I've flown fly AA on the basis of access to the lounges, and I pretty much avoid UA since my GW evaporated.

Summary: risk mitigation and futureproofing!
Nailer: no downside that I can see, apart from one more piece of plastic and some additional emails. I can deal with those (and where is the thumbs-up smiley when you need it?)

So in reality you have every intention of flying Virgin and a genuine purpose for wanting lounge access, which is fine and totally valid. But there are many who don't have that intention and don't need additional lounge access (for assorted reasons) and another jolly card and emails and mail and promotions maybe just another thing they don't want. I respect that.

In all honesty I doubt it will last a month due to there being a predetermined "cap" on how many people VA is willing to match :(

I think your best bet is to match now :)

Husband's Platinum match came through today :D
