Two years ago I bought a few bottles of Clarendon Hills Brookman Cabernet 2006 from Nicks. Some bottles were well past their prime, others great. Felt like a gamble.

All those Clarendon Hill were good buying at $12 back in the clearance days. I think I averaged 2 corked out of each dozen, so they’d need to be cheap for me to buy again.

That Mitolo Marsican got 89 points in the first review I found.

Deep crimson. Intense blackberry, dark cherry, dark chocolate aromas with vanilla, marzipan notes. Well- concentrated blackberry dark chocolate marzipan flavours fine chocolaty textures, superb mid-palate volume and attractive minerally fresh acidity. Finishes firm with bittersweet/liquorice notes. Very good density and torque with alcohol in balance and should last the distance.

This is a really pleasurable, brilliant wine. It is ripe and will appeal hugely to those who are attracted to plush tannins and sweet fruit. It is hefty without being overweight. Cool. 14.8% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and wax.

What did they drop the $320 Grand Pappy to? The box is nice, but it would need to be $50-60 before I’d consider it. McGuigan Philosophy went from $150 to $40.

Grand Pappy was offered at $50 on VM but was also offered on the Langtons staff sale for $35. 2018 vintage. I got a bottle and tried it, thought it was very good. Interestingly The $500 First Pick was also offered at $50 around the traps.
