Vinomofo Wine Deals

99% sure the contraband shiraz is the 2012 vintage of Schild Estate Shiraz. It was a great deal last year for the 2011 at $6, i hope the better vintage makes this an equally good deal

Unless the label has changed and the Schild Estate website (and numerous retailers) isn't showing it, it's definitely not. Note the "750ml" text on the Vinomofo site versus the Schild Estate site (you won't see it!).

Hmm, good pickup, it is definitely a different label. The one on Vinomofo also appears to have a bit of white at the top which doesn't match the schild either. It is possible that Vinomofo just used a random bottle for their graphic.

Schild's website list the alcohol content as 14.5% and Vinomofo's is 14.7%. Everything else seems to match though (including the 3 gold medals).

I bought a case of the 2011 and it was a bargain for $6. I was hoping the 2012 would be the same price but since it is a better vintage it would make sense for it to cost a bit more.

Both the Schild and Vinomofo sites list the alcohol as 14.5%

Dr Ralph - they must have just updated it - VM was definitely 14.7% when it was first listed.

@electrotek and @ripsnorta - I don't think they would have used the actual label in the photo on Vinomofo. It would have given away too much!

The use of a random bottle as the picture is becoming a lot more common. I remember one of the very first Vinomofo black market deals was a Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage. They used the bottle in the ad and it made it ridiculously easy to work out.

Although $6 is cheap, their 2011 was rubbish IMHO.

A bad year for the Barossa due to the weather and a very average wine. Haven't tried the 2012 yet.

Agree. The cabernet was ok (for a $6 price tag) but the Shiraz was so so, ended up giving most away. I did purchase this 2012 Contraband though, I am guessing as 2012 was a great year it should be a nice every (second) day wine :)

I got both the cab and the shiraz from memory, and the cab was better for sure. Anyway, still not sure whether I should get a case of this or not..!

My case arrived today :)
Now need an opportunity to open a bottle for tasting purposes ;)

I'm away for two weeks (although suspect it will take an extra week to get to Perth). Told work to stick it in the server room were its a balmy 18 degrees. Was the closure cork or screw cap?

I only tried the shiraz and I actually didn't mind it. It wasn't amazing but for $6 it made a good daily quaffer. I ended up deciding not to get the 2012 as a lot of wines come up on Vinomofo around the $8-9 range and I would rather try something new.

Jumped on the $10.50 black market pinot noir. Peter Leske makes some good stuff and I'm running short on everyday quaffing pinots. Lansdowne pinot noir 2012 matches the description but RRP is off by $2.

Looking for some wine suggestions possibly from VM as their prices are competitive.

My son needs to buy a gift for his father who turns 60 next week. My son is only 23 so the budget is around $120. We thought a 6 pack of nice wine would be appropriate, but open to suggestions. Something celebratory but not too expensive. Any ideas? Thought I'd speak to one of the brokers.

It really depends on his father's tastes. He may like lighter Pinots, or stronger Shirazes. Or both! :)

In general, a $10-$15 price point is the sweet spot for most. Below this is hit and miss. Above this often comes down to the individual's appreciation for wine. Also remember that wines change about every 3 days or so, so you'd need to act quick on a recommendation. There's not much on there right now, and nothing that stands out to me... try and hold off a little.

Don't forget to get him to signup via referral for $25 credit on his first order! (see http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/referral-offers/vinomofo-referral-60639.html if you aren't able to refer him yourself).
