Vinomofo Wine Deals

If i am not mistaken, I believe this is:

McLaren Shiraz 2014 $75 $35 - Innocent Bystander Known Pleasures

Well done! I'd agree - matches price and all the judges' scores. I couldn't find it by searching Mclaren Vale shiraz etc on Winecompanion - now I understand why.

Hi folks - I'm new to this site, but finding the info quite useful (bought the III Assocs after reading reviews here and loved it!) so just wanted to say thanks to everyone, and also thanks for the link.

Greetings and welcome to AFF to both of you.

Drop over to the introductions sub-forum and say hi.

It's been up a few times before - first listed in May if my records are correct. Definitely Magoo76 has picked it:

Shiraz

2014
$75
$35

Innocent Bystander Known Pleasures

I bought the Piedmont 6-pack. $50 for Barolo seems a good deal.

Any chance you can advise exactly what you receive when its delivered as the picture and the descriptions are different and the rrp's in the notes only add up to $530. If its as per picture I can keep an eye out for it if it comes up again but if its as per the notes I'm not interested.

As far as I can tell, there's only two discrepancies between the pictures and notes:
a) the first listed bottle (the 2011 Manzone Castelletto) should have an RRP of $120, rather than $50. That brings it into line with the RRPs of the 2006/2007 Castelletto, and brings the total to the advertised headline price.
b) the last item listed had the "Castelletto" repeated - it should be the 2011 Bricat, not the 2011 Castelletto. That matches the picture.

I'm curious to know why this would make such a big difference to you (aka ignoring the RRPs, since buy what you like, not what RRP someone slaps on it, the only major difference between notes and pic is the Bricat vs Castelletto)

I didn't want 2 of the same Barolo as wanted to try different Barolos. 4 Barolo and 1 Langhe (x2) it is then. Pity its not 6 Barolo but now you've explained it I may have a go. thanks

Fair enough.

To be honest, I doubt you're going to get 6x Barolo at $300. Most are in the $80+ mark in Australia, and anything decent is well over $100/bot. Barbarescos a bit cheaper, and decent Langhe's at the $50 mark. I guess this lets you try a 2011 now, and the same bottle in 10 years time, and see how it changes, as this seems to be made in the more traditional Barolo style.

I guess VM has a no-questions-asked return policy, so you can always return the box in case the contents aren't what you want.

Any ideas on the 2008 Shiraz $100 down to $49.90?

Mitolo Savitar 2008

Halliday: 96
Lisa Perroti Brown (eRobertParker): 93+
CellarTracker: 89
Vivino: 4.3/5

Couldn't find many reviews of this particular vintage. No idea why Dr Ralph thinks it's over-priced, but we've had that conversation before.

I have tried it and although many others would not agree I also thought overpriced. Not bad wine but not worth $50 in my eyes.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I see your PoV. You have to like the big Mitolo style to justify the $50/bot tag.

Dr Ralph's argument (at least previously) is that this wine can often be had for less than $50/bot, so that's why the VM price is "over priced". Personally, I don't think that it's often discounted that much, and not for museum releases.

Thanks guys. Honestly I guessed it may be the Savitar, not because I'm a big expert, it just seems every second Shiraz on offer lately is some label by Mitolo!

I've tried the 2010 vintage (also mystery deal from VM) and it was definitely my kind of Shiraz. I'd say it does worth $50 but with so many bargains going around lately it's not hard to get this kind of quality for less.

Has anyone tried any of the following:

Allegiance 2016 Clare Riesling
Atlas 2016 Clare Riesling
The Doctors 2016 Marlborough Rose

Opinions most welcome.

For competitive purposes, I've recently enjoyed the Leo Buring 2016 Clare Riesling (Dry) which I picked for $13 a bottle delivered. I've also previously enjoyed The Doctors Riesling.

Got an email from Westpac offering $25 cashback when spending $80 or more online at Vinomofo in one transaction. Offer valid from today until 8th Nov.

I've tried and enjoyed the 2014 of this wine. 2016 is supposed to be a great vintage in the Clare Valley so should be a winner.

I think Wozza posted some good tasting notes in the Nice Wine... thread a while back.

2014 Atlas Wines Riesling 172º Watervale, Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale - CellarTracker

"A lovely floral but young 92/100 (3.6/5.0) from me. This Clare Valley Riesling from the Watervale subregion is sourced from old, dry-grown vines made by winemaker, Adam Barton.

The nose is beautiful and fresh, with lemons, limes, white flowers, apples and a touch of minerals, sweet beeswax and lanolin. The palate is light and gripping, as those flavours peak strongly but shortly, before leading into a delicate grapefruit, lime and lanolin finish.

At $25 (Langtons Value Mystery Pack) it was good value. WIP, but promising, with a definite 94 and possibly a 95 in the offing ...
