Vinomofo Wine Deals

Yes, I noticed that the chatter on this thread seemed to have dropped off significantly lately. Which caused me to wonder whether any of The Mods have access to data that would enable making a chart that would show thread traffic over time??
I suspect that such a chart would show a fairly rapid rise to somewhat of a plateau, followed by a dramatic drop resembling a cliff...
Well I don't have access to anything special, but a quick look at post # vs date shows that about 200 posts/month for the last 4 months, and about 400 posts/month before that. So things have certainly slowed.

I am keen to uncover this too. There cant be many 'arguably biggest name', '5 red star', 5th generation wineries in the Barossa offering a $180 Cab Sav but I have been through a stack of suspects (the winery websites) and cannot find a match.

Has anyone tried the Mule Shiraz? 2016 on offer a couple of days ago. Haven't tried Mule Shiraz, but like (big) McLaren Vale Shiraz and have enjoyed the Mule Rose this summer (polished off two cases). Thoughts/opinions?

Thanks. This explains it. I looked closely at Grant Burge given they are arguably the biggest name, and 5th gen produce, making a high end cabernet (Shadrach) however the website has no $180 2009's! Very deceptive to be representing this export model as a $180 bottle.

In the context of recent discussions RE: VM and trust; it may be illustrative to read the posts on this thread regarding the Corryton estate. It was never a $180 bottle of wine, indeed, it may never have been a $60 bottle of wine.

I had noted a recent discussion thread about VM blurb being of no value given the over the top descriptions. But I was not expecting outright fabrication of price comparisons as this appears to be (and the thread you mention discusses)!

Unsure why you say it's a fabrication.

Maybe "unrealistic", but lots of made-for-export-to-China wine is marketed at prices we'd find ridiculous here. Plus seems to come in wooden boxes, heavy bottles and under-cork.

I think the quote on fabrication came when it was previously listed at the only other source of https://www.cellarone.com.au/grant-burge-corryton-estate-cabernet-sauvignon having it listed for 3 months at $75 a bottle and then miraculously increasing it to $180 a bottle the day before VM went out with the offer is a bit on the nose. It appears that they requested the winery increase the asking price in all searchable forms so that they can big up the discount offered at $60 a bottle. It is a bit on the nose and they have lost a bit of trust over it. It will take something special to make me purchase from them again personally

Yes. This was discussed before when the wine was first offered. Agree it is a fabrication and another nail in the coffin for vinomofo.

Unfortunately some AFF members remain adamant that Vinomofo can do no wrong.

So which company picks up the mantle then? I haven't been disappointed by DM yet. Are there smaller ones that are worth checking out good doctor?

I doubt the price was increased because VM asked them to. It would have been a joint decision between the two. Accolade left holding all this made-for-export they couldn't move at $75, so they turn to (or are approached by) the likes of VM to clear the stocks.
To make the whole proposition look more appealing they put the price back up to whatever nonsense number they were trying to sell it for overseas before. My hunch is Accolade's just as culpable here.

Also keen to know about this... I have the 2015 Pyrenees shiraz and found it quite worthy of its price range. Will wait for the 2016 Pyrenees if this Gateway wine isn't as well-liked!

Broker advised they have the 2016 Pyrenees Shiraz as well, but ended up buying a 2009 Syrah Viognier for $12.50. If I don't like it, will swap it for the Mule.

Sorry all, can't find a solution to this one:

Beautifully ripe and fragrant, the inviting bouquet shows blackberry, plum, mint chocolate, liquorice and cedar characters. The palate delivers terrific fruit intensity and vibrancy, together with rounded mouthfeel and silky texture, wonderfully structured by supple tannins. The wine offers gorgeous fruit flavours, finishing persistent and delectable. At its best: now to 2022. AU$35.00. www.blaxwine.com.au. Feb 2017.

Thanks AC and Redbigot. Does indeed appear to be the domain "premium" Shiraz (at a guess they have a normal Shiraz as well). Never heard of the winery so a pass from me. Nice looking bottle though.
