Vinomofo Wine Deals

Had the Wills Domain Paladin Hill shiraz tonight. Not my cup of tea and not for me recognisable as Margaret River Shiraz. Full bodied but over ripe, soft tannins, not a patch on other shiraz in the SW of WA at $35, let alone the joke RRP of $85, although admittedly that is the price on the maker's website. Makes one wonder!

You aren’t the first and you certainly won’t be the last to find one of VinoMofo’s wines dreadful Dave. I recommend you take advantage of the VM return policy and return the other five for a full refund.

Yeah, maybe. I'll probably use it for bbq wine, I have some friends who would be fine with it. Just too sweety fruity upfront for me. Granted it was a bit of a punt, but I should have known better!

You know that you can just call them and they’ll pick it up from your place the next day and give a full refund? Get rid of it Dave. Spend it on something good instead

Yup, I know, but I do entertain regularly and have friends who would enjoy this more than me, so that's fine. To be fair, I have mainly dipped my toe in for foreign wines from mof_ and generally been happy, plus occasionally Oz rieslings. I am more on the savoury side with reds too, so thought this would be okay given where it's from. Just a bad call but I can use it still ☺️

Sounds like you’ve been mof_’d

Happy Friday!

I wanted to let you know about three amazing, robust reds from two incredible regions. Today we're putting the new-world Barossa Valley against the old-world Rhone Valley region of Châteauneuf du Pape.
These 3 wines are some of the very best we've seen at Vinomofo, and if you'd like to fill some spaces in your cellar's top shelf, these beauties will absolutely do the trick!

First, let's talk about Barossa...

1. Black Market 2015 "Block 3" Shiraz, Barossa Valley, SA

9/10 Vintage Rating - Halliday Wine Companion
98 points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
98 points
- Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot
97 points - James Halliday, Wine Companion
95 points - Ray Jordan
95 points - Wine Advocate
95 points - The Real Review

"The term "mouthfilling" is usually a good one for a palpably luscious and generous wine. [This Shiraz] takes possession of the word, denying its use by any other full-bodied red wine." (97 Points) - Halliday Wine Companion

This wine is only produced in truly outstanding vintages, and with a 9/10 vintage rating from Halliday, 2015 certainly fits the bill. This Shiraz is a beast top-to-bottom.

The fruit profile is immense and does well to handle the oak and alcohol contained within. There’s so much power and drive that it all sits neatly in place, and with complexity in droves. Expect violet, tobacco, chocolate, mocha, cassis, clove, fig, vanilla, and on and on and on. Six years into its life and it’s still a youngster, certainly a thrill to drink, but hinting at so much more.

Oak treatment: 2 years in 225-litre French oak barriques, 100% new
Alcohol: 15%
Cellaring: Decant to drink now until 2051

Down from $258 per bottle to just $99.90 per bottle in 6 packs

My notes: Looks to me .. it is this puppy

NOW... let's talk Rhône!
Both of these Châteauneuf Du Pape come to us from the long awaited and widely revered 2019 vintage.

2. Domaine De Ferrand Châteauneuf Du Pape 2019 (pre-arrival) - Rhône Valley, FRA

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Bravay boasts a deeper purple/plum color as well as a powerful bouquet of smoked black fruits, roasted garrigue, black licorice, and ground pepper. This rich, full-bodied wine has loads of Provençal character, a stacked mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great finish ... It’s beautifully done and well worth seeking out." - Jeb Dunnuck

This one's pretty special. Our Head Wine Buyer, John, told us it was his top wine of the last 12 months - and we can certainly see why!

This is not your average drop from the region - it's a tightly wound, red fruited, elegant monster (does that even make sense?) that I would recommend either decanting for at least 3 hours, or holding on to for another 2-3 years before getting stuck in. The blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah/Mourvedre/Cinsault was taken from vines planted between 1910 and 1930, adding herbaceous complexity to the mix.

This is a serious wine for anyone who likes something a little different and interesting. Its vibrant and powerful red cherry and bramble will ensure excellent fruit is maintained through ageing, as will the cocoa-like tannic structure and mineral drive.

This is a long-term CdP that will pay off dividends if you're willing to wait!

Alcohol: 15%
Cellaring: 2038

Down from $120 per bottle to just $59.90 per bottle in 6 packs
Expected to dispatch from our warehouse on the 14th of October

3. Château Sixtine Châteauneuf Du Pape 2019 (pre-arrival) - Rhône Valley, FRA

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
"The flagship is the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Chateau Sixtine and it’s mostly Grenache with solid amounts of Syrah and Mourvèdre, that’s raised in concrete and used barrels. It’s another rich yet incredibly polished, seamless barrel sample that has ample blackberry and black raspberry fruits as well as notes of chocolate, cured meats, and spice, full-bodied richness, plenty of polished tannins, and a great finish.” - Jeb Dunnuck

Another favourite of our Head Wine Buyer's, John Clark describes the Chateau Sixtine as ‘one of the best wines I’ve ever bought’. This Châteauneuf is insanely generous and rich, yet still very approachable and will satisfy any lover of top-class Rhone red. The fact that we can offer this incredible wine for under $50 truly is phenomenal.

This stunner will continue developing and evolving in the cellar for the next 10+ years easily, and will only get better with time. When you do decide to dive in, be sure to let it settle in a decanter for a few hours before it hits your glass to make sure you're seeing it at full potential.

Alcohol: 15%
Cellaring: 2034

Down from $100 per bottle to just $49.90 per bottle in 6 packs
Expected to dispatch from our warehouse on the 14th of October

Hi, these are direct from a VM broker. Sometimes more often than not they will show up on VM site.

If you really want them, drop me your email and I will send your details to my broker so he could reach out to you direct.

FWIW my tasting was quite different. I thought it had complexity but was austere and mildly tannic, hence happy to wait 5 more years until the recommended drinking window opens up.

Could I possibly ask the same? I missed out on the last CDP :(

Are you referring to Shiraz or Cab Sav Blend?
I have some of the Matrix cab blend which had rave reviews from the 'fo and others on this forum. Was pricey for a VM wine so I'd be super-sad if it isn't lovely. I wasn't planning on drinking it for a bit but now I think I should neck some to know what I'm in for.

The Wills Domain Paladin Matrix
That is what I thought, however @DaveLoftus was referring a different VM wine namely Will Domain Paladin Hills Shiraz. Whist on topic, I agree with you that Wills Domain Paladin Matrix had complexity and was mildly tannic however I didn't think it was austere or exceedingly acidic from memory.
Personally I stay away from Marg River Shiraz as I never found one that would sway me from SA and Heathcote Shiraz but do enjoy MR Cabs and Cab blends

Maybe austere wasn’t the ideal term - not acidic, more restrained

Sure - drop me a PM with your email address

Also this one is interesting.

Doesn't come up in the usual searches. Claims it is their top Châteauneuf-du-Pape made by the esteemed crew at Château Sixtine so I do wonder how is it different to the one I posted above for $50 Château Sixtine Châteauneuf Du Pape 2019 (pre-arrival) - Rhône Valley, FRA.

Apart from slightly higher claimed alc vol?

yeah, I like the chateau sixtene but this says top wine and it’s cheaper, I think it’s the top wine from a lesser label.
