Vinomofo Wine Deals

The price they are quoting is the RRP not the actual selling price.

I disagree.
Ref. Price as at 14/01/15: $100 RRP direct from producer
To me, and perhaps the average punter, that implies if I was to buy the wine directly from the producer, the price I would pay is $100. Clearly, this is NOT the case and deceptive at best.

Things like this make me want to avoid VM. I've actually not purchased anything from VM in a while as the offerings in my opinion have been pretty average.

If you talk to them nice enough :P

Best not to say who, VM folks check this forum and you don't want to get that broker in trouble or preventing them from future "leaks".

they must have read what i wrote before about the coughpy offerings. i must say the recent offerings have been very decent such as the lineman's limestone and st george and now the no 1 shiraz.

keep them coming guys. even better they can offer bigger discounts. will definitely buy more in that case

Fair enough - I have asked a few times and always been told "Sorry, No Can Do".

I understand that leaking such information is a breach of whatever agreement they have with the winemaker, so I haven't pushed too hard... And if they did leak it to me, like you, I would think twice about sharing that information.

FWIW, the secret deals are a bit of fun, but I am definitely trying to trim down the wine purchasing in 2015.

Yeah I passed on the Saltram, not a big enough saving over other retailers for this one imo. Has anyone tried this vintage?

Absolutely, enough said already. "telling" can be a subtle hint or straight out advice. I suspect there are some deals where there is a bit of licence to reveal, other are no go.

I have experienced 2 brokers, very different standards in their knowledge of product and wine generally.

Let's be honest folks, anyone who buys a wine out there at $8.25 or thereabouts before postage for something half decent is doing particularly well. Particularly considering the savings. We all know that normal RRP is based on many things, not the least of which is the price the market can bear. We all enjoy a bargain, and as such one of the reasons we buy anything out there is that we perceive the product to be of fair, good or great value. Human nature can also dictate why we think we might be getting a better wine that has a RRP of 27 compared to another with a RRP of 19 when both sell for $8.25. It doesn't really matter so much so long as we enjoy the product. Considering there seems to be a few mb bs'esses out there, my bro in the a and e department recently bought the night harvest red from w.a. I have yet to try it and of course am wondering with the expectations of a kid on a first date. That's the appeal of VM...as they say it themselves, it is addictive. So before I go off and throw my Campral away, I hope there are plenty of good drops still to come. You have to hand it the folks there, we all have been on the receiving end of incredible stuff at great prices. in the words of Julian Ceaser, Veni Vidi Bibi......julian was the alcoholic brother.

If that is the case then VM are being outright deceptive. They claim the price direct from the producer is $100. That is simply not factually correct. The producer has a 6 bottle case advertised as $599.94 which is crossed out and the sale price being $479.95. I'm surprised this is legal.

Vinomofo have been deceptive about the info they provide on these deals MANY times before. Deception includes wrong alcohol content, wrong bottle size, wrong years, wrong region and wrong RRP.

Well I hope its only a matter of time before the law catches up with them then.

Wrong vintage can have a substantial impact on the quality of a wine...

I have never seen this, but if I did, I would consider sending it back.

I've had one case of wine sent to me that was different from the Vintage listed (sent 2011 and ordered 2010). VM took it back without question.

OT but FWIW I've also had this happen in a few upscale restaurants. Probably 50% of the time the so-called sommelier has been a bit reluctant to take back the wrong wine and let me choose a different one from the wine list.

Very annoying when this happens.

Care to name the restaurants?

Some so called sommeliers leave a lot to be desired! A mate and I walked out of a Melb restaurant after the sommelier refused to taste the wine we thought tasted funny and was possibly faulty. This was a $130 bottle of Shiraz - chosen on his advice, after he recommended a bottle twice the price, without asking what we liked and what we were going to eat!

Like the restaurant where we ordered a $130 bottle and they bought out a $60 bottle by the same vineyard and kept insisting it was the same one. Took a few goes before they were convinced.

Many wineries make this easy, with so many labels that are similar. I suspect either they don't know anything about wine, or they hope you don't. Either way, poor form at that price!

I forgot to mention that the sommelier I mentioned also didn't ask what we wanted to spend! The only thing he asked was what wine we wanted (Shiraz), then suggested one of the most expensive on their list!

Glass Sydney
Embassy XO Sunshine Coast
The Atlantic Crown

There have been a few others but these are the standouts. Particularly Glass where the sommelier attempted to completely ignore the fact that the Pinot ordered was from a different vintage and proceeded to open the bottle despite my questions.
We sent it back as they had none of the vintage listed on the menu and ordered a different Pinot.

One had a black label, the other maroon. But the waitress kept saying 'but it says cab sav on the label'

Disappointing that The Atlantic is on that list, as I've been wanting to eat there. How was the food?

Sounds like she fitted into the no idea about wine category! Still not good enough for the price, but at least not being dishonest.

Care to name the restaurant?

Back on topic, I haven't had incorrect vintages from VM, but depending on circumstance, would return an incorrect vintage (for Riesling or Rose - if older than stated; for red, if younger).

The food at The Atlantic was really good and they did replace the wine with the correct vintage when I pointed out the mistake. Very apologetic and no other issues with the meal or service.

You guys are making Perth look good! I've never experienced such behaviour here.

The worst has been I ordered a magnum and they brought out a 750ml. They show the bottle prior to opening and I pointed out that I wanted the magnum. They brought out the next bottle which was a magnum but wrong vintage. Pointed this out again and finally received the correct bottle. No arguments or uphill about it though.

I think if they tried pulling a swifty like some of you have described, I'd be inclined to just tell them I don't appreciate the way I'm being treated, stood up and walked out.

Not sure I would walk out but would not be paying for something I did not ask for and would letting the sommelier know of this.
