Vinomofo Wine Deals

Beware, this 3 yr old may have entered its closed period, which most rieslings do after a couple of years. At this point, it may seem a bit unbalanced.

I purchased the 2011 Cliff Edge at the end of last year - best riesling I have had -

Ps - mind you have not tried any of the $35 + rieslings but found I enjoyed it more than the Jim Barry/Pewsey Vale/ Heggies / Pikes etc - was less fruity than them with a pronounced lemon taste but very smooth - it was the best recommendation I have ever had from a VM Broker - only have one bottle left for a special meal Review from Haliday below for 2013 & 2011- I agree with his 2011 review (usually don't agree)
[h=3]HALIDAY REVIEW Cliff Edge Grampians Riesling 2013[/h]Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyards
Riesling
Grampiansing 94

Slightly fuller style than usual but no less impressive. Spice, pear and apple flavours shoot enthusiastically through the palate, though the real drama is reserved for the finish, where the symbols come out and the flavours ring loud and clear.

[h=3]Cliff Edge Grampians Riesling 2011[/h]Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyards
Riesling
Grampians

Produced from the estate plantings from between '71 and '93. The highly scented bouquet of lime, apple blossom and talc leads into a deliciously fresh and intense palate following precisely in the footsteps of the bouquet, the finish as clear and fresh as a spring day.

I hope the 2013 will be as good as the 2011 - I've just bought a case. The Winefront review was positive. Campbell Mattinson gave it 93 points and a drinking window to 2023: "The Grampians are rarely mentioned when riesling is mentioned; this gives that notion a shake.
It’s quite a full style but it’s ripped with spicy flavour and gives the finish a thorough going over. Pear, apple and talc notes get the chatter humming but the climax of zesty lime and spice notes is the real game changer."

Same here on the purchase, the review, and the single remaining bottle being kept for a special meal!

I'm incredibly tempted to grab a case of the 2013.

very impressive work by the great man Kim and written in a very easy to digest manner. However, some folks probably don't mind the scent. Others may treat it the same as cork taint. And let's not have an all out abuse session on that one.

I ask the seasoned Rizza folk who have drank a river of the stuff to comment and enlighten me. I love a nice Riesling, I love a nice anything really but I do like to discover other people's taste worlds as well.

For something a tad different, has anyone had a pipers brook chardonnay 2014 or other ? I know earlier this month VM had it. Steady, you probably have had their pinot but what about this?

99% of the whites in my cellar are riesling (a few pinot gris/grigio), with a large % of them from 2001/2002/2004. The 2001 Mount Langi Riesling (2 bottles left) was one of the best wines I've ever tasted. We take a bottle or two of aussie riesling each time we visit our friends (one of which is a wine maker in Sonoma) in northern California as they don't make riesling wih the strong mineral/citrus/kerosene notes over there.

Mount Langi makes wonderful wines in general, so for $12, it's a boom even though i'm WAY over stocked.

Boom for me also!

Yeah, both of these have been identified before, but I don't remember anyone confirming that they actually bought. No reviews, no scores, and in the case of 10 Chains, no history. Maybe the wines might be great, but unless you feel like a betting man, why bother?

Don't know if this has been raised before, but is it Austin's 6 Foot 6?

sounds like it.....this is an interesting one for those who go by reviews.
I don't know about you, but a JH 93 barely gets me excited as a score on its own. However, the dan murphys customers love this 2013 vintage. That to me is very suggestive of a very good deal.

Looks like it.

Alcohol matches, tasting notes from the producer almost word for word.

Campbell Mattinson gave it 92 points, including the words "this is brilliant value".

A testimonial on the website 'about us' page says "I am constantly blown away by the quality of Austins & Co.".

I'm going by the fact I've had it before, find it a solid and reliable product and would be better than your $10 store bought wine. JH 93 = not faulty.

After fruitlessly searching for a shiraz last night to go with my spag bol, I had to hit the boom button on this one. Your reviews sold me. (though I was thinking about the black market durif, but couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was, so decided to leave it).

The Durif is this one:

I got one of the 2012 in a mixed case and looking through my past notes I enjoyed the wine, my notes from 6 months ago were a little more succinct. 'Quite a bit of pepper but very smooth'...

If I was buying I might have boomed on this one.

I'm tempted to boom on the 6ft6 myself. It'd be case number 5 in a month I wasn't going to buy any more wine.

I can stop any time I want. Seriously, I can. ;)

... was tempted by some wine glasses of all things. schott zwisel classic burgundy at danny m. 26 the pair. so will explore. have some already for whites and they are lovely. this time the buckets. so let's see what they are like. I need a little distracting at the moment.

They look decent - but if you are in Sydney or have a friend here who can grab some for you, Victoria's basement does them at $49 for the six.
That'll leave you enough to buy a bottle to fill them with.

Tried the Fox and Hounds Shiraz blend 2 night..
some say too thin..but the thing that stands out to me is that its got no length whatsoever ...not much smell either
i mean its OK... but boring...lol...i think mine is going back

The Hart of the Barossa....whilst not as full and punch as expected....it has some quality and would probably get better with age...
