Vinomofo Wine Deals

$22/bottle on the website, so technically they are correct. As always - research, even if cold called.

However, it is deceptive.

It's a remarkable feat that VM achieved, convincing people to buy unknown products based only on a very subjective blurb. However, for VM to succeed they need to be cultivating a sense of trust with the consumer. I don't think they have been doing that lately. Does anyone think they actually curate their wines, or do they just sell everything that comes their way?

Other retailers have caught onto the 'secret wine with a bombastic explanation' schtick; the only difference VM can offer is an established customer base that trusts them to accurately represent a wine.

Of course, YMMV. I hope you still enjoy the wine prozac.

Look over on the right.

In fact, La Bise themselves are misleading with their offer. They cross out $132 but the normal 6 pack price is $110. Everybody's shonky!

You are wrong again. The blurb to the right side of the page refers to the case discounts offered on any of their LaBise variety $22 wines, and their $25 wines. Underneath they quote the case discount for The Thief $22 wine. The Pinot Gris is still 99/6.

Most marketing is and VM is getting shonkier over time.

By the sound of the Huon Hooke review, it seems to be a good wine so anything significantly below the $16.50 cellar door 6 pack price would still be a win.

mrs prozac got a VM call last week and they sold her a cheap Labise Pinot Gris which they said was $22 cellar door. Turns out the cellar door price atm is $99/6. Not happy about the misrepresentation. :(
Hi Prozac; if your wife likes the wine wait for it to come on special at DM. They cycle through their range $79 per 6 pack at the moment its only the temporillo. Cheers

I have little faith in my capacity to judge wine objectively , I like it or I do not and sadly , that's the extent of any cerebral linkage.

I like it .

Someone else who seems to like plonk that I like and seems to make some interesting calls is this bloke :

The Vinsomniac - Stuart Robinson: Search results for lagrein

Thanks tgh, I read that review and a couple of others before booming on the Lagrein and I think it's going to be a pleasant surprise when it turns up. I guess I was just curious whether I had interpreted your comments correctly especially regarding the 'astringency', it sounds like a flavour profile I'm not altogether familiar with but I'm all for trying new experiences :)

The GH Lagrein really good. At the price tremendous value. Jump in, you won't be sorry. :)

Always good to get a personal opinion on VM's and other merchant's offerings, I'm certainly looking forward to the 'shock of the new'....

I get calls from GWD (even though I asked them to cease and desist) at times offering red-hot deals but Im not really swayed by the cold-calling "I'm your personal sommelier/broker routine". I think perhaps cynically, that they are simply trying to move product, didn't know VM did that sort of thing, did your partner tick a box saying that they were happy to be notified by phone regarding special offers? As far as researching the 'deal' it's a bit hard when someone's breathing down your neck urging you to take up the offer IMHO.

Hi Prozac I forgot to add that price includes free delivery to your home or nominated address.

Hi tielec its getting to the point that VM marketing and sales blurbs is putting them ahead of car salesman as the most hated BS spiels and advertising goes people. VM are destroying themselves with this stuff. Trust yeah right I wonder how much really gets sent back to them? More then they let on I suspect; so to keep the trust up we have one year to send cough back. The one positive I see is they my be keeping some smaller wineries at breakeven. I am sure with expansion they have had to grab a lot more of anything for the different markets they are in. As for brokers there are definitely some good ones who have a reputation built on trust but there are not many. Cheers and enjoy the weekend

Uh…Is it incumbent upon the seller to present exactly what the buyer understands the words to mean?
Folks tend to read what they wish to believe AND the sellers know it.

The 'Fo has sold me and a lot of others some bloody marvellous plonk over the past few years.

I read the spiel and I make the calls.

Sometimes I make bad calls and sometime I make good calls.
They are my calls and I live or die(suffer) by them.

Expecting truth in advertising is like believing in god or good men….it is applied hope.

Too true tgh but I was nearly laughed off the forum (some time ago now) for lamenting the hyperbole of VM's descriptions. Everyone chimed in saying "no one takes VM's tasting notes seriously" whoops, sorry, I naively thought they were meant to be descriptive of the product in question. Wines they describe as "big" or "deep" or "bold" and so on have been so far from the truth upon tasting that it renders them useless, I really think some of the staff responsible for putting out these flights of fantasy have only got one hand on the keyboard if you know what I mean.....

Just to clarify I buy from the FO and elsewhere. Apolgies if destroying was maybe a bit harsh so lets say bringing themselves down It is a sad day when you say you cant expect good men. There are some good men out there in the world; Religion each to their own. I have had some very good wine over the years myself from the FO. In advertising there has to be some truth to avoid the false advertising claim. The point was unlike named brands and points that enable people (new and old members) to make an informed decision or from fellow esteemed AFF members; the imports; black labels and contraband is where some people make a buying decision based on the blurb; I know friends who choose no longer to buy from the FO for that reason. It takes a lot more good press to make up for the bad press written or verbal. Whining&dining is 100% correct in his post after mine with his experiences with the FO. Cheers and relax.

agree with what is being said.
as with many industry 'disruptors', they aren't really concerned with the industry or the customer but scorched earth growth- it is never sustainable.
their marketing spiel is getting almost as bad as getwinesdirect but with slightly better graphic design.

It also doesn't help that they completely misrepresent all the points for their international wines. It is blatant misrepresentation to claim a wine has '99 points' etc, when the points are actually for the previous vintage wine.

San Vincente Rioja being one of them - it had a whole bunch of 99, 98, 97 and 96 points from different International reviewers, and only the 96 points were correct. Everything else referred to the previous vintage. Last week a Spanish Rose magnum had the previous vintages points attached as well, whereas the current vintage scored far less. And don't get me started on quoting the Decanter Points for everything. They are points from the Decanter World Wine Awards, which is a completely different kettle of fish as it is a wine-show, not the far more harder-marking magazine of the same name. There are currently quite a few wines listed with 'Decanter' points, but when you look further the actual Decanter magazine has reviewed it with far less points, or not at all. It doesn't take much to claim that they are Decanter World Wine Awards... i don't know why they continue to blatantly persist with this.

Anyway - i havent bought from mof_ for awhile now. To much swill and too much reliance on wines that on paper sounds great, but in tasting fall very flat.

Gee, there's not many posts identifying hidden labels or recommending (or otherwise) particular deals lately. 'Nuff said.

Yes, I noticed that the chatter on this thread seemed to have dropped off significantly lately. Which caused me to wonder whether any of The Mods have access to data that would enable making a chart that would show thread traffic over time??
I suspect that such a chart would show a fairly rapid rise to somewhat of a plateau, followed by a dramatic drop resembling a cliff...

Quite calm and relaxed now , but my post certainly reads as a bit blunt so my apologies for the tenor , was just expressing another viewpoint .. :-)
