Now that many visitors to this thread have achieved between 111,000 and 311,000 points in the first few days/weeks I thought I should let you know how today's 5.30 am flight out of Perth went for my youngest son who was heading to Sydney for the rugby.
"Landed in Sydney, had the new business class and it's very impressive"
I replied "Frequent flyer points at their finest".

....and just like that, it gone!
i see the referral links are still showing 110k on offer (see here), but I wouldn't expect Amex to honour the full points given 30th sept has now passed.
Given the normal points offer is 50k now, I'd expect the referred offer to be closer to 60k, though even the referral generator is still showing 110k.

It was a good time while it lasted. Thanks Amex! :D

Cove, were you able to collect velocity points on your trip? I thought I read elsewhere that it is possible. Or maybe I'm thinking of status credits??

With Virgin I have never bothered with starting on the status credit chase. I hold a lovely red card with zero ever status credits but I have many points. So far this has worked a treat for business class flights in Australia when QF has dust.
My youngest son ratted points out of my account to do his flight and I am ok with that.

The offer is still there so take a screen shot if still applying. Maybe it's on USA time.

I agree, Thanks AMEX on a well run promotion. Points were credited and swept way quicker than lots of other promotions from other banks......a concern moving forward into another annual fee year is that the flight does not appear to earn status credits.....I am always in the need of status, so this might be a valid reason to ditch the card......, otherwise I would likely keep it and pay the fee as its value for money........just saying

the only issue that arose was tracking referrals, but there is a huge privacy issue that we must all accept....maybe in future just an email saying a referral has been used and expect 20k in points in 4 weeks or something with no names involved etc.....

Yeah, it appears that SC's aren't available on the velocity card. Sad. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ing-scs-complimentary-amex-flights-70627.html

I can still see it as a reward under my membership, whereas people seem to keep saying it's over.

It was a LOT OF FUN whilst it lasted. It has made a lot of happy customers.

Amex must have had so many new applications and customer last 3 months.

Now the Velocity Amex deal is over.

If you missed out Velocity deal, the Amex's deal for 80000 Qantas frequent flyer points is still available:

The fact that it needs to be approved by 30 Sept 2015 means Amex may not award those points anyway if applied today.

Apply by 30 September 2015, be approved etc etc........ There is no approval date limitation intrinsically linked To the offer, never has been

My hypothesis is that the hiccup of points being posted to referrer in the last couple of weeks was due to AmEx realising how popular the promo was and trying to get their IT system fine tuned so that they can identify cases where points should not be awarded.

I know there were cases of people already holding AmEx cards but receiving the sign-up points anyway. Considering the above hypothesis, I wonder if there has been any case of people who already hold AmEx cards signing up points over the last couple of weeks and having received the sign up points?

could well be. The 80k points on offer is still quite generous so I guess we'll find out reasonably soon when people who couldn't sign up for the 110k off try it. :)

I wouldn't scoff at 80k landing in my lap, but 110k has more than likely triggered everyone to "get out of bed" as it were. Especially since there are many immediate rewards of great value from that bonus (even if some were incapable of exploiting it as such).

The lax approach of Amex has helped considerably as well.
