Thanks! I just booked a flight from Perth to Sydney and it all went smoothly. No questions asked and gave me a whole day to make flight changes etc.
Sydney is still on the cards ;)

I think RAM suggested the applications were made on the 30th.

The plot thickens.

One application received a letter saying it was successful BUT that credit limit (undisclosed in letter) would be shared across existing and new account.

So, as no contact to say not eligible - hoping it means 110,000 to us and 20,000 to you. No card shown up as yet.

Letter dated Oct 2 but received Oct 6.

Nothing on other application at all.

I thought most people had been getting an email advising them of success before anything in the mail or am I wrong?

Nope. No email for me or my partner. Just an 'approved' screen after submitting the application. Card turned up a week later & points after $500 spend. My points still haven't swept across to velocity though probably 6 weeks after I got my card.

Already had three AmEx-issued cards. Upon applying for the fourth (AmEx Plat), received a call that I'd need to close two of the accounts before the application could be approved. Decided to proceed, and I was advised I would not be eligible for the bonus as I was already a member. Decided to proceed nevertheless. Just noticed 110k appeared in my AmEx account a couple of days ago and has been transferred to my VA account. Double checked the VA account and it's all good :-)

..and then you went out and bought a lotto ticket....

2 x referral bonuses have just popped into my account. Thank you very much RAM. :D

Looks like they were ours - letter was dated October 2.

In last nights mail 2 cards showed up.

Heart rate increases with thought of 2 x 110,000 points.

Opens mine, heart stops "We've allocated your credit across your two cards..." - thought on constant repeat in head "No 110,000 points, no 110,000 points.."

Then thought - no phone call or other contact about not able to receive 110,000 so remain positive. Do I call before I activate to confirm or go pot luck?

Open wife's "Welcome to AMEX" Yes!

110,000 comes after $1,000 spend doesn't it?

The fact that they appear to have given SydneySwan 2 x referral bonus' gives me some hope.

Mine appeared after $500 spend (excluding the $349 fee charged on activation).

I found it took 2-3 days for the "Welcome" offers to appear with my card. Give it a few days..

It's been a week and the missus still has no offers. Not even the ones that are currently available - she has to go to the Amex website and manually add them. I don't know why the offers automatically appear when I log in and all I have to do is click "save", but no offers appear in her account - but she can only add it if she does it manually.

She hasn't gotten any of the welcome offers either and I'm wondering if those have been discontinued now.

i got my first offer on my first Amex card months after signup. On this velocity card, they appeared instantly. Dunno why that was?

Has anyone cancelled their card after booking their complimentary flight BUT before taking it?

No, I have not. But why would a person want to? Are you hoping for a refund on your annual fee - that may be optimistic. So, in that case is there an advantage? It may be a good idea to keep the card and keep paying it off on the due date to keep a good credit score.

Not hoping for a refund, just wanting to close some cards as I'm managing eight at the moment (four of mine and four of my husband's), am no longer spending on it and have already received the points. I don't want to keep cards longer than necessary so if a new promo comes out, I will have a chance to go for it..

Haven't looked up my credit score though!

You get charged the annual fee on your first bill so probably worth keeping it for a while and then cancel it before the anniversary to avoid another annual fee.

I find that I am using it as my card of choice now due to the high points per spend and the fee pretty much covers the domestic return flight. I have seen my 110k bonus come through (but not yet transferred to Velocity). I do have a joint Qantas Amex/visa (still got the bonus :) and the referral fee should go to somebody on here) which I don't really use anymore as i am concentrating spend for Velocity points so will probably get rid of that soon.

It may be worth doing some research on here into credit scores as a few people have some very good advice. Search for Veda scores.

i personally don't see any advantage in closing this Amex so soon after getting it. After all, if another good Amex deal comes along, I don't think they'll be in a rush to approve people who only held this card for a few months.

True, and it they come out with another bonus offer to refer friends, we could get even more points.

Ok might hang on to it for a while then. I got my first rejection from Citibank and wonder if it was because I have so many open, and some have minimum limits of 15K so it adds up. Not fussed about my credit score when it comes to loans but would like to keep collecting points with credit cards..

Instead of cancelling you could ask Amex to reduce the credit limit to the minimum across all your cards, they should be quite accommodating of such a request and this may make your combined credit limited look less intimating to citibank.
