Wow. They are going to have thousands of people ringing up to complain about missing out on their points if this is the norm. Amex is a sophisticated company- im surprised theyre screwing their customers over like this?!

Yeah :) , but I wouldn't say they are screwing their customers over (yet). If you go to the card now, the offer is 100K bonus. I suspect the IT hasn't caught up with what appears to be a moveable feast of bonus offers. The 'source code' thingy appears to be important in getting the bonus actually deserved.

Its a terrific offer, so I'm prepared to be a little patient (but starts oiling 'old faithful', with double barrels, on my knee, just in case :p )

The t&cs do say 8 - 10 weeks so probably a bit premature to talk of screwing people over!

The link I saw was 110K points.

Sure ... isn't that what I was saying?

Dare I suggest it - but it seems worthwhile a star "moderator" who shall remain nameless, may create a spreadsheet for logging the progress of the points feast. Similar to the Q upgrade bid one.

My suggested columns would be, "Date applied", "Referral Link Owner", "Any Amex direct ccs already?", "Any Amex via Bank ccs already?", "Success/failure", "Date notified", "Reason Given".

That way adopting the 'honesty' profile we can:
  • track who should receive a decent number of referral bonuses
  • track who's referral links work/don't work (perhaps some are flagged for refusal as auto check on that referrer created some flags for Amex - it happens where they don't want to increase risk of loss in family members)
  • track how quickly different referral links work (again my signal issues)
  • optimise the harvest while the sun shines.

Just a thought.
Have you seen my sock drawer lately!?!

You are of course welcome to start your own. :)

The signup pages from the referral links don't say that you don't get the 100,000 points if you already hold an Amex issued product.
It's only if you click through for the detailed T&C that it's stated. Pretty misleading if you ask me.

+1 applied today and approved within 60 seconds
Maybe it her VA status that got the approval through instantly??

I think it is probably her credit score Buzz. I'm platinum and didn't get instant approval. I've had a few card applications lately!

My signup bonus is showing in my Amex account (and I already had an AMEX).

May be a bit premature for those with existing cards to be noting points posting. They don't sweep from Amex to Velocity until the end of your first month, right? I would also recommend discussion of this "feature" by PM rather than openly, but that is just my opinion.

Chalk up another one... 80000 points showed up lastnight, not 110000 as it should be.

This is going to be fun....

I signed up using the referral link last week, and received instant notification by SMS that I was approved.

Physically received the cards four days later. My only quibble was that the credit limit was a bit low — I'll need to move funds into the card in advance if I'm to use it for paying my BAS — but I received my two Lounge passess instantly, and checked after my initial $1000 spend, and was credited 80,000 points, even though I do have another Amex (Platinum Credit Card). I rang the call centre yesterday, and after a short wait, the advisor told me that the additional 30,000 would be in my account within 10 business days.

Thanks OP: that's 110,000 points for me for not a lot of money!

Hey guys, I just checked my wife's card (signed up without a referral link) and there is this: "Velocity cobrand acquisition bonus - plat" 10,000 points. She hasnt reached the 1k spend yet. If you refer someone you are meant to get 20k right?

Yep just called up and and had a pretty similar response. Not particularly inspired with the call though as the operator knew nothing of the 100,000 point offer (and 110,000 pt referral).

Surprisingly quite amateur hour for AMEX who are usually very polished...

Agreed. Amazing they set up the front end of the promotion so slick yet failed to do the same with the back end.

There will be thousands of people signing up to this card through the referral offer.
