For those that "gamed" it with an existing Amex card, but received the bonus anyway, did you declare your other cards on the application form?

I have a Plat Reserve (cobrand, professional society), so in theory I can't net the 110k.

Just remembered that my mum had a David Jones Amex previously; it is cancelled now, but not sure for how long since.

Hey anat,

Yes, I declared my existing card at the time of application and received the bonus points. I hold a professional society Platinum Edge.

Yes I gamed it and got my 110K points. I did say in my application that I have existing Amex card, and provided the Amex card number.

But what I did to ensure that that the application is as "automatic" as possible, is that I cancelled one of my 2 existing Amexs: Cancelled my Gold Engineers Australia Amex, and kept my Engineer Australia Platinum Edge card. The reason is that Amex only allows you to have 2 Amex credit card and 1 Amex Charge card at one time. Otherwise if you apply this card with 2 existing Amex-issued cards, then it would get stuck in system unless you call up to cancel one of your card and the operator would see your application, and may "do something about it".

Although it sounds a bit unethical, if you try to get the card for the 110k, complete the spend but don't qualify for it (and thus get no bonus), could you cancel the card, pay off the balance, and get a pro-rata on the annual fee (11/12)?

Oh believe me, I'm not fussy who uses mine :). I just wondered if there was any way of keeoing track. If Amex have stuffed up points , then they may well ' miss' a few referrals ....

Well keep an eye out because I did use your referral link last Friday ;)

I have an NAB amex and the form didn't let me insert the card number into it, it would break. So I rang them and they said "no it doesn't count unless we issued it, so don't put the card number in". I left it off, applied, approved, and 110K pts pending to transfer now.

I don't see how you can game the system this way. Wouldn't they know if you already are a primary card holder for an amex card, regardless of if you tick the box saying you have one?

That likely depends on if you use the same other details (email, address, license etc.) and what level of interconnection exists between their systems. You would suspect that any banks systems should be complex enough to detect this.

The real question is, why are people getting the points even when they explicitly mention that they've got an existing card even with the T&C's say they shouldn't get them?

Yes, another one of these referral links. But, if anyone is yet to apply for the card, it would be greatly appreciated if you used my link. Each referral is a one-way ticket from CNS/TSV-PER to visit family back home. Yes, I'm a student. :(

Just applied online using your link. Approved instantly!

Where do you get the referral link to share?

Hi Guys,
How long do the points take to post? I can see them in my amex online account (I put 6K through), but I only just made a payment of 6K to cover the charges. Nothing in my velocity account as yet.
Cheers.

Pretty sure that amex do a scrape each month and the points get moved across to your velocity account
