Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

Would the fact VA have just dropped ADL-DPS go against them trying to ger rights to fly ADL-PER-DPS? Ie if they cant make a direct flight work, how are they going to sustain a one stop?

Which is why they came out with ‘temporary suspension due aircraft shortage’

I am somewhat skeptical as I think it’s more overcapacity. Jetstar went double daily NEO, overnight the route picked up 100 extra seats. Add in Batik, and it was swimming in seats.

And Batik Malaysia pulling their one-class 737 out of ADL-DPS (thus ending KUL), and replacing it with the 2-class 737 from Batik Indonesia (4x weekly) very much hands the J recliner market to ID on ADL-DPS.

Yeah, not interested in Batik.
If there is no VA from ADL we will just go to MEL or SYD and go with GA

Would you go via PER? assuming those ADL-PER-DPS rights are granted, basically a same-terminal transit as you're clearing immigration in ADL (plus getting to travel on a "international" tag flight on a domestic sector).

Nope. Not interested in going via PER. and doing 2 3hr plus stints in a recliner. Easier to go to MEL and get proper J cabin on GA

O/N MEL and 0700 departure GA MEL DPS 😳
Which is why we usually fly VA outbound as it leaves at a great time. . On the inbound we nearly always fly GA as I can’t do overnighters in recliner. Occasionally we will fly with SQ or MH so that is still an option

I suppose the one stop being PER, is where they think the majority of pax will board and disembark from the Bali sector?

I'm not really sure what the issue is....the aircraft that they want to use just happens to fit the criteria for a ADL-PER-DPS Sector and back? Crew/aircraft/positioning?

Perth based people are longing for VA to fly this route. I assume the overall demand for seats remains high. Not sure about the overcapacity issue. I suggest supply and demand can determine that.

Issue is ADL folk lose a direct flight.
I would guess the majority of us have zero interest in going via PER so VA are just handing over more traffic to JQ and Batik. Really disappointing but personally we are lucky that we have many other options to get there

The issue is they are asking for more DPS traffic rights while dropping flights to DPS. Doesn't make a huge amount of sense.

My understanding though is that ADL-DPS direct will return once they have more aircraft. So eventually it might be ADL-DPS and ADL-PER-DPS

Also ADL-DPS doesn't fall under the bilateral, it's considered Regional to Indonesia which is unlimited. VA are applying for the Regional via 'Big 4' Capacity (The 'Big 4 capacity' is capped).

I'd say VA had dropped the ball on this one. This is similar to the Tigerair fiasco with the Indonesian authorities, where IIRC they only had approval for limited 'charter' services despite operating TT as a replacement for VA on those nominated services.

Hold on.

Are JQ not wanting to fly these tag flights as Domestic also? I don’t think the intention was to fly International Terminal Cairns to International Melbourne?

Indonesian bilaterals requires the regional 'via big 4' services to be operated from the International terminals, hence international tag legs (with domestic leg-ony passengers requiring to pick up a 'D' sticker plus carry ID for 'immigration' on their boarding passes).

VA stated they were not willing to do that, thus IASC awarded the capacity entirely to the QF/JQ group.
