Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

They really have no idea still. It's bloody amazing. Flew AS a few times recently and their service upfront in the 737 put VA to shame and one FA was serving 16 passengers!
 
I had the pleasure of talking with a senior member of the VA marketing team today - I think I'll point him to this thread as he wants to know what is going on..

Make sure you complain in writing when the product/service has performed well below your expectations - I do this _every_ time I'm seriously disappointed. VA will almost certainly make some effort to help you feel less wronged ... and if the effort they make is in itself insufficient, well, at least you can move on with the knowledge that you gave them a fair chance to rectify things.
 
No complaints here for J BNE to MEL today! Good portion, locally sourced gourmet yoghurt and very tasty all up.

Had a quinoa and asparagus salad on a lunch flight today (sorry no pic). It was good, first time in a while I've been happy with VA j
 
Veggie lasagne can come out quite wet if the veggies are cooked with the sauce, so I prepare them separately.

Standard tomato based sauce: saute garlic and onion in olive oil; add herbs, wine and tomatoes; cover and simmer for at least 30 minutes; add pepper.
Grilled veggies: mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, red and green peppers brushed with oil and then lightly charred in a panini press or a BBQ grill. (Or just in a pan.)
Cheese: half ricotta and shredded mozarella mixed with a little grated parmesan
Pasta: dry lasagne sheets, but can be any pasta really

The Lasagneisation. Layer from the bottom: sauce -> pasta -> veggies -> sauce -> cheese -> pasta -> veggies -> sauce -> cheese until you run out of ingredients. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle with cheese, and bake another 20-30 minutes (or just brown under the grill).

Recently have travelled four legs between Coolangatta and Melbourne and vice versa. Two in business.

In my opinion the "service" is a bit of a joke.

In economy all one is offered is a glass of water or a cup of T. Whilst that is acceptable for a $155 ticket, I heard they were offering everyone a snack on the east coast main routes these days. They really are so inconsistent.

In the front both time the choice was a mezze plate or a sausage roll. Fair dinkum? A sausage roll on a $700 ticket?? I can get a nice sausage roll at most good bakeries for under $5!!

I opted for the mezze plate both times which was quite tasty but hardly what I would have expected on a Business ticket in the late afternoon or evening.

On the upside last evening the cabin attendants were quick and efficient and the bar service was excellent. The chap took everyone's order quickly and brought pre dinner drinks out soon after lift off.

The first time a fortnight ago sadly I was made to feel like I was a bit of an interruption by asking occasionally for a top up. to wash down my olives and dip. Also we must have been half way to Mel before any drinks were served.

I remember twelve months or so ago on similar route in the front a proper meal was served. Choice of beef rib or salmon comes to mind.
 
Now we have daylight savings in Victoria, it's a timely reminder that dinner isn't served on J flights that leave Qld for MEL just before 6pm...

hmm - I've done this before, by the time I hit my room in MEL the hotel restaurants are normally closed leaving in room dining only ...

Order from the Y menu if nothing but sausage rolls or bags of nuts or whatever - I believe its an unwritten rule that J guests can do this, and it should be free - I've done it any number of times. Still not good enough on a J ticket costing many times its actual value (and poor food with weird timings is part of this problem), I agree, but order a big pile of sandwiches and cheese or whatever, at least won't be hungry at the other end.

edit: Oh, and does anyone know where the various snack times/meal times are documented anywhere on the VA website?
