Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA83 (morning 1000 hours Saturday 11 August SYD up to HKG, A332 VH-XFD) took off at 1050. Expected arrival is 1910, 90 late as winds may be adverse.

This will delay VA82, the 1950 hours HKG redeye back down to SYD. It may be able to depart at 2025 if all goes well.

VA417 Adelaide to Sydney, 11am delayed to 12.30pm so far.

Told its due to lightening strike and test results said something to be replaced. No idea if true or not.

Thanks Denali. The flight is showing as an expected 1315 hours dparture.

You meant 'lightning' I suspect, but 'lightening' was a very clever pun.

We're still sitting at the gate, another 20mins we're told. Pilot said incorrect message to the gate and they boarded too early. I'm in 1D so no worries but there was a groan from the rear.

VH-VUJ is Denali's B738, the 1100 ADL across to SYD.

From FR24 it looks to have just commenced pushing back at 1343, about 150 minutes late. It promptly took off at 1352 hours, so SYD arrval should be at about 1608, 168 late.

Landed approx 3.50pm, felt like we barely cleared our lunch trays and had a small rest and then prepare to land.

Story is there was a electrical discharge that hit the tail. Engineer had to test and send results to Boeing (?) they responded on what needed repairing then more testing and go/no go. Testing was still happening after boarding. Well that's what they told us.

Later on Sunday 12 August, VA721, the 1900 hours from ADL to PER that took off at 1959 with F100 VH-FNJ should arrive at 2139, 39 minutes late.

The 1815 hours SYD across to ADL (VA436, B738 VH-YFS) took off at 1912 so arrival has become a predicted 2027, 32 late.

A long way north, the BNE - MKY VA621 has VH-VOO but is arriving at 2212 tonight, 42 late.

The 1800 hours OOL - MEL, VA750 (B738 VH-YFH) is far worse with take off occurring at 2032. Expected arrival is 2248, 143 minutes behind the schedule of a 2025 at gate time.

VA886 (1930 hours SYD down to MEL) took off at 2024 tonight with B738 VH-YFW. Arrival should be at 2145 hours, 40 minutes past the allotted.

The 1910 hours BNE down to NTL (VH-VUS) took off at 2017 so anticipated arrival is 2118, 48 minutes tardy.

VA69 MEL-HKG delayed by 3 hours to 330AM departure o_O Anyone know what the hold up is? I know VA9940 was late coming out of HKG, was VH-XFJ coming out of maintenance?

It's worse, with XFH taking off from MEL on VA69 at 0752 hours, seven hours late on the 0030 hours Tuesday 14 August VA69 MEL to HKG for a suggested arrival at 1409 instead of 0810 hours.

Also on 14 August, VA566 (1045 hours PER - SYD, B738 VH-VUU, not many's favoured fleet type for air travel on this long domestic sector) is arriving at 1730, 35 late.

VA854 (1530 hours mid afternoon SYD down to MEL that took off at 1634 with VH-YFQ) should arrive at 1754, 49 late.

Later on Tuesday 14 August, VA693 (1815 hours MEL - PER with A332 VH-XFJ that was airborne at 1933) should arrive at 2127 tonight, 47 late.

The 1730 hours late afternoon VA870 was in the sky at a delayed 1852, having B738 VH-VUU. Arrival should be at 2016, 71 minutes late.

VA1378 has VH-VOT and is the 1910 hours MEl down to LST that took off at 1955 for a suggested 2100 arrival, 45 late.

VA1467 (2025 hours MEL up to DRW) did not get in the sky until 2131 (B738 VH-VUU again) so arrival is suggested as 0125 hours on Wednesday 15, 65 late.

VA34 (2325 hours Friday 17 August DPS down to SYD that took off at 0113 hours on Saturday 18) has B738 VH-YIQ and should arrive at 0846 hours, 81 late.

Laterv on Saturday 18 August 2018, VA1184 (1020 hours PQQ down to SYD, ATR72 VH-FVQ) took off at 1125 so arrival at 1225 will be 50 minutes behind the timetable.

VA1162, the CFS - SYD has B738 VH-VOS and is arriving at 1238 hours, 33 late.

VA938 (1005 hours BNE - SYD, B738 VH-YWE) took off at 1025 with arrival suggested as 1215, 35 late.

Sitting in the VA domestic lounge in Sydney. There are multiple cancellations and delays this afternoon. They’re blaming the wind and slow ATC arrival rate of 15 per hour.

Comoman, as I noted above the delays have commenced.

As often, this begs the question: given that Sunday arvo and evening is normally busy, how on earth do all these passengers get to their destinations today or tonight if multiple flights are cancelled? I couldn't imagine too many being accommodated in hotels at VA expense, so do some just cancel trips or get rebooked tomorrow)?

VA1175 (ATR72 VH-FVQ, the 1010 ABX - SYD that took off at 1036 is arriving at 1233, 63 late showing how even on a relatively short by airline standards trip times can blow out.

Continuing with Sunday 19 August, VA837 (1100 hours MEL - SYD, B738 VH-YWD) took off at 1235 so arrival has become an estimated 1348, 83 late.

The 1050 hours LST - SYD (VA1089, B738 VH-YID) took off at 1130, about 25 minutes behind schedule but SYD arrival was not until 1259, 34 late.

VA481 (1205 hours SYD up to MKY, VH_YFC) was in the sky at 1309 hours so it should be at its destination gate at roughly 1431 this afternoon, 51 late.
