Those party pies were pretty good Liam and from all reports the chocolate things were exceptional....pity I was talking to the charming Annette whilst they were scoffed before I got one

I didn't have the time to scribble "LMPP" on one of the pies, but that would have been good fun.

The menu has improved, and the all-day toaster and sandwich press is a great idea.

The condiments are a good mix - seeded mustard, Englishmustard (?) or Dijon or something similar and I think mayonnaise.

The quality of the nibbles is also good.

Drinks have improved too with the addition of a few more things.

Overall great stuff, but there is of course room for further improvement.

I have heard from a very reliable source that a new contractor is to take over the management of the food service and cleaning components of the Virgin Lounges. Even though Virgin dictate what, when and how, managers of the new contractor have been directed to this thread and are lurking.

I was pleasantly surprised to be handed a proper, hand made, Lemon Lime and Bitters at the BNE lounge last night (after making a comment to the lounge manager 4 weeks ago that the bottled LL&Bs are rubbish). Good work Virgin, good to see that sort of responsiveness. Now we just need something a little more substantial than soup and toasted sandwiches at meal times and the lounge will be just about perfect.

Granted that the lounge isn't supposed to replace other food options. However, when stuck in airports at mealtimes I don't really want to have to go and purchase a meal elsewhere when I am a lounge member.

I was in Air NZ lounge yesterday and it was pretty good.

I would have to agree with this. You want to make use of the lounge as a member. You don't want to have to exit the lounge at breakfast, lunch or dinner to have a proper meal. The lounge should be set up for this otherwise there is not much point offering any food at all.

Thanks AFF community and particularly the T.S.A.S. - we hear you!

Pleased to let toastie fans know that as of next Tuesday, we will have all day toastie stations with sliced tomato and condiments, in all Virgin Australia lounges, and a 'normal' toaster will also be available in the Melbourne lounge.

Based on your feedback, we're also including Swiss cheese, sliced tomatoes, condiments, and salad dressing at lunch and dinner. But that's not all folks ..... we are now investigating:

  • more hot items (quantity and variety) in the evening
  • heartier breakfast options
  • more choices suitable for gluten intolerant and other dietary requirements
  • other non-alcoholic beverages
  • plus a few surprises. ;)
Please do note though that our lounges don't profess to provide a full sit down meal, nor intend to compete with the cafes/restaurants, your mum's roast, wife's casserole, or catering at the corporate function you're attending. We just want to provide you with fresh, tasty light options to keep you going!

Any and all feedback is of course welcome, and if you'd like to send through to [email protected] the team can review and investigate even quicker than we can through watching and participating here. In saying that, reading about what everyone likes on their toasted sandwiches makes this particular rep not feel so strange!

(Please Note: These changes apply only to the Virgin Australia lounge menu, our on board menu is separate to this)

Thanks again.

Thanks VA - Even though I am one of your fans (see my avatar to the left) I wanted to remind you guys that many of the Qantas platinum members you have status matched, or Qantas Business class travelers are use to Qantas Business lounges which offer hot food like casseroles, stews, scrambled eggs, and even made to order food at certain times (e.g. lunch, diner, breakfast ) - please pass this on :)

I was at both MEL and BNE Lounges on the weekend and just wanted to say how impressed I was with them. The all-day barista service is an absolutely fantastic idea and the beer selection was certainly impressive. Snack selection was quite good as well - certainly on par with the offerings of QF. In addition, a huge plus was the Wi-Fi in the lounge - not once did it crash on me (are you listening Qantas?) which was also very handy when trying to get work done!
Well done Virgin, you have done a fantastic job with your lounges (at least MEL and BNE), and I look forward to flying more on you in the future!

Now if only they can status match LH SEN to Platinum ...

That would be a company called Alliance Catering.

I wouldn't see a LH SEN to a DJ WP being a problem - but get off your chair and send the match request in quickly. I had an AF SG matched to the DJ WP without breaking a sweat under the current promo.

This is a very good point actually

I'd like to see a wider range of desserts to munch on prior to evening flights. My recent Canberra Lounge experience saw me devouring the Thai Chicken Soup (was to DIE for!), but in terms of sweets, there were only little muffins..how about mini creme brulees or something like that?

Seriously?? Its an airport lounge. The purpose of which, is to get away from the general noise and activities of an airport terminal, have a quiet coffee/beer, something to nibble on and have a peaceful environment in which to catch up on emails/work, or just relax. Its not meant to be a restaurant.

No, certainly not a restaurant, however there's little wrong with having a reasonably substantial feed so you do not need to consider BOB for the flight. ;)

I agree 100% but the fact is their food offering needs to match or beat the competitor's - And at this point, the food offering is not at the level of Qantas Domestic Platinum/Business Lounges by which I mean a lack of hot dishes like scrambled eggs, casseroles etc.

Not having a go at you Noob, but the lounge is a lounge, not a business class lounge. It is fair to compare the lounge to qp, but unfair to compare it to a qf J lounge
IMO. The lounge meets or exceeds qf qp in regard to offerings cleanliness and atmosphere. Im not priveliged to spend my time in qf j lounges, but i am sure they are superior. BUT, so are their fares $1300 syd per as against $1800. Is the business lounge worth $500 on a domestic run. Hmmmm nah
Regarding party pies etc, any finger food is great, but we then end up in the situation mentioned above where its scoffed as soon as it is released, and all bar the one or two that pile up their plates miss out. Im not sure where the answer lies, but personally I am happy with it ( but i do still fly qf a bit because of where i fly and virgins lack of lounges)

The Qantas domestic lounges, and I stress domestic are no better, and maybe to a certain extent due to the fact they are mostly busy, not quite as good. Bottom line though is the lounge is there to relax and refresh, it isn't a restaurant hence why the food in both is generally snack like.
