Exactly my point. Qp are the same yet ppl seem to be comparing the virgin lounge to j lounges, and the services they provide, which is a totally unfair comparison

That is a valid point, but I wouldn't say it's totally unfair. QF business class travellers and WPs have (I believe) access to the J lounges over QPs.

As Virgin are now competing in that same market (business class and platinums recently added to the DJ mix), they do have to address this benefit as well. As they only have one class of lounge (at the moment), it seems logical that they have to increase the quality of that lounge to compete with the QF J offering to satisfy the expectations from those J and WP flyers and to win their travel $.

It would seem that DJ have indeed recognised this, as they have/are spending millions in added/renovating lounges.

At the end of the day I see very little difference between the Qantas domestic J lounge and the Virgin lounges, so not sure why they need to create two lounges. If I am not mistaken the only real reason Qantas did what they did was due to over crowding, so created the J lounges to provide a more 'exclusive' space for the business class pax and platinums. Sure some of the offerings between the Qantas club and the lounge are different, but not all that significantly, same too compared to the Virgin lounges.

There is a difference that I can think of ......... EGO, the DYKWIA syndrome and I say that in the nicest way. We're all guilty of it to varying degrees, simply because it's human nature to feel special and important and the exclusivity of a J lounge, F lounge, gold, platinum all feeds that desire.

As to how much this influences people away from a BFOD policy, I don't know, but funnily enough I just said to my wife this morning, that as much as I love the feeling of achievement that my recent gold status has given me, I have definitely been drawn by it away from my business model of BFOD and this weekend I do intend to examine the cost bases again (how much the benefits are worth to me in hard $ terms as opposed to how much the DJ fares have risen against the competition).

Interestingly, she said "but I do so like the lounge"

I hear from my source that Virgin will release a new lounge menu in early November. However at this stage, Spirits aren't on the list.:(

I hope the new lounge menu is not a replica of the "new" in-flight menu..........where they stripped the bare cupboard, even barer!   :(

can't seem to find a more current thread but this morning at The Lounge in Sydney I was very disappointed with the food. The muesli was not of a very high standard and the milk was actually more like water with some coloring.
Had expected more especially as I was on a 6.30AM flight and had timed it to just have a quick bite to eat and fly out so I had no time to go and queue for brekkie in the main terminal. The barista coffee was excellent though. When on QF I must say I like the breakfast offering with the muesli and yoghurt in the J lounge and I think I was expecting the same standard. (Maybe I was just cranky because I had to get up at 5AM to catch the flight :D )

(have provided this feedback to Virgin as well via the website)

You need to compare it to the QF Domestic lounge.............

Probably good idea, will try to remember to visit that one again some time, can't remember what their breakfast is like... But can't remember ever having had such watery milk in my life. Didn't notice till I took a spoonful and had to (discretely of course) spit it out again.

Sounds like Skim milk to me.

He didn't say international J lounge, just J lounge, which Qantas has domesticly in many places. Though you could probably argue the Virgin lounge neds to be compared to the non J Qantas club lounges, or maybe just accept each for what they are and don't compare.

I think the feed still has some way to go, comparing it to QP or J lounges is not a good baseline either!

The Virgin lounge in MEL needs a new menu, well all lounges do actually... At least the hot dogs are gone from MEL and the nachos.....

However, for at least 3 weeks it's been the rice and chicken dish.

In the meantime the CBR Qantas lounge has had different food weekly and last night had a VERY yummy pasta dish

And while we're at it, I would like the Lounge to have bigger plates instead of those hockey puck-sized plates.
I'm not wanting it so that I can pile a frisbee-sized plate full of food, three inches high.
If I have time, I like to have a glass of wine and make myself a nice grazing plate with the meats, cheese, salads etc. A little bit of everything. Having to put everything on top of everything is not nice.
Yeah I know, first-world problems.

Bigger plates would be nice, but there is a reason they use small plates... Not going to change

Just means you have to go back 3 times for a decent meal

They've noticed my waistline and figure I need less food or more exercise?

BTW.......what happened to the swiss cheese!

And to set the record straight, I have an overactive waistline that must be genetic! (or should that read generic to middle aged men?)

Last time I was there (yesterday) there was a sushi, which is only been there a few weeks as well as two new pasta dishes.

Lunch today in MEL had rice paper rolls in place of Sushi, and very nice indeed!

Drinks wise would like some spirits.

I am not a fan of there food selection at all.

Sometimes when I have been in there i feel like I am at the end of dinner service at a buffet type venue and they don't want to anymore out.

There is a pancake machine in Brisbane, its awesome. And boiled eggs and cold meats and all sorts.

I think it's pretty good myself.

The soup is the best, I hope they never lose that. After a business trip of nerves and fast food, simple soup is good.
