OOL/MCY/BNE to SYD is $37 but mostly arvo flights unless you grab the 6.10 ex OOL

Yeah just looking at the Ex-OOL flights, thought if I flew OOL-SYD, then they could check me in for the SYD-MEL sector too. Shame the only available flight is the OMG'o'Clock flight.

I think I'm destined to not take this flight. I've made about half a dozen attempts over the past week without success.

The latest attempt happily took my credit card details and died at the attempt where it'd normally give me my booking reference.

Unfortunately it takes AMEX a few days to show transactions, so I have no idea yet if it took the money or not. I guess I'll find out soon enough - if a booking reference turns up in my email then I'm all good :)

JQ35 booked, $36 thanks to the Price Beat Guarantee :)

Now I just need to sort out my BNE-SYD and MEL-BNE flights, and decide if I'm coming home Saturday night or Sunday.

Not that you have to fly with me :p but I'm down on QF507, spending the night in MEL (location undecided) and back on QF624 in the afternoon.

OK, I'll have a look at those flights tonight. We need to find out what drewbles has planned for his birthday celebration, don't want to spend $hundreds on a hotel room if we are out partying all night :)

My plan, at this stage, is to frequent 18o6 (Mixology 1806 | 169 Exhibition St Melbourne | coughtail Bar, Melbourne CBD), along with some other venues that serve tasty libations.

There may be room on my lounge/air mattress/floor etc for a few people, pending approval of housemate (although I fail to see that being an issue as he'll most likely be out drinking with us).

I'll have to try and pace myself. It'll be a long day :)

(and no offers of a lift to the airport the next morning sorry; I don't expect to be in a fit state to do much but get up and find the closest café for a hangover-reducing breakfast).

What sort of a host are you then? :p

Assuming one was to take you up on the offer of a comfy spot on your floor, what sort of distance are we talking for the cab ride to the airport the next day. It's not that I'm a tight cough, but I've just blown $10K on flights to take the family to the US in 3 weeks time :)

But you have your own personal transport anyway!! Skybus!!!

As nlagalle states, skybus. I'm around a 10 minute walk from Southern Cross Station (I live in the CBD). Failing that, i'm a few hundred metres from a tram which will take you the 3 or so stops to the bus station.

Of course two or three people sharing a cab will make it marginal (As skybus is $13 each and a taxi is around $45).

Skybus is $17 and last time I got a taxi to the CBD it was closer to $70.

I remember one of these nights Ewing tottered out of Chateu Lawlass at about 4am and Bossreggie didn't leave at all...

ETA: and I can't be bothered trawling through this thread... who's on what flights from Mel-Syd in the morning? I'm still keen for a VA flight... someone mentioned a $66 flight?

oops you're right. $16 one way (was factoring 2 x trips which are $26).

Last taxi I took to my place was $50 on the nose, plus 10% for the stupid credit card charge (was a work expense so I didn't care). I'm right near docklands side of the city, so it makes it easy to get off from Citylink.

Try looking @ TT's website, then doing a price beat with JQ ;)

I'm on DJ825 on that morning. Would you care to use my VA Lounge guest spot? (0845 departure)

I'm VA Gold, so lounge access not a problem, just want friends.

I did the TT price match on JQ35 ($25.something). They say you can only price match one way, but would they really know if I do another one for the Mel-Syd leg?

If it's a second booking I don't see an issue.

Of course you could just cough up for the DJ or QF options ;)

I'm happy to meet you there if you wish!

excellent. And if worse comes to worst I'll either get a last minute hotel or sleep at the airport :)

I've now booked my hotel.

ibis Sydney World Square - $89 / Fully flexible. Reviews on Tripadvisor aren't too bad, and I think I know what I'm getting myself into! ;)

Depending what flight I go up on, I will also have a guest spot for the MEL Virgin Lounge...

I live about 2kms from the CBD too and may be able to offer my spare room to someone if needed...

Lawlass: that $66 fare was a lunchtime deal, though some early flights also at that price. Might be worthwhile looking at some early flights on Monday during the happy hour sale?
