Westfield XS card

I paid a not country bill at a PO on Thursday using the actual non rural card in conjunction with EFTPOS savings on XS.

Ok I've got most of it, think I might be missing a few of the extra tricks.

Don't believe my CC will allow me to pay it off at PO.

So I would be limited to the LnG card (sounds like there may be another better card that I'm not quite getting)...

Ok think i've found a better option... but think I might be missing a way to double dip with EDR or something?

Is this counted as 1 or 2 transactions?
Thinking of the fee to the not country...

Cheers

I think I am getting this as long as "not country"="non rural"
Thanks, it's great to get confirmation that this can be done. I do like your earlier suggestion of only showing the excess card when all other things are in place

Thanks all...I have answered most of my PMs. And if not I'll get to them eventually. And some of you need to clear your inbox or upgrade your membership BTW. Hopefully everyone here wants this wonderful gift card and bill paying system to keep working. So may I again counsel publicly against circular transactions near simultaneously in time and or place. If you don't know what that means PM me or think about it.

Before doing large amounts of XS stuff think about what you, or your monitoring software would look out for if you were running such a system. Let's leave something on the table for all parties.

And yes I know that these discussions are likely to be monitored but that's even more reason to be aware of potentially troublesome issues

I know of one person (and not myself!!!) who their system picked up many many months ago for essentially that reason. So yes they do monitor.

Am I the only simpleton here or are there others totally confused with this thread?

Any attendees at Wednesday night's drinkathon expert in this matter?

If YES - happy ade is on me.

Sorry...PM answered. There are reasons why there is a lot of silly talk and code in this thread ;). Plus like a lot of these things those in the know develop their own jargon. LOL>>>>wouldn't happen anywhere else on AFF ;)

All too confusing for my simple mind ;) But I don't spend much on bills or credit cards, so suspect I wouldn't get a lot out of it anyway (from what I can figure out).

PM received - PM very much appreciated - favour will be repaid + interest at some time in future.

it's the AFF way ;)

edit to add: but nothing expected in return. I continue to learn more from AFF than I could ever hope to put back

The excess card is an excellent bill-paying system. It gets into a few of those nooks where Amex or other CCs won't reach or where a hefty fee is demanded. I've been paying my regular bills with these and getting into places like Aldi where I do a lot of grocery shopping and they ask a fee for credit.

These places are now effectively points earning transactions for me.

Dropping into the Westfield concierge and picking up a card for whatever my normal monthly spend is likely to be makes good sense. I don't want to have too much debt on my card, but realistically I'm going to be spending a certain amount on Telstra, electricity and so on. Aldi for groceries.

And a big one for me, not so much in terms of money, but for helping out small businesses like paying my newspaper bill. There's a reason they charge extra for credit and that is because they have to pay the fees. Using eftpos saves them money, but I still get the points.

Circular transactions, well they might not be illegal per se, but they are likely to raise flags in software. Remember banks and other places are on the lookout for changes in behaviour. I've had my bank suspend my accounts when I did a quick RTW because it was unusual. So now I tell them before I head off, and they don't worry too much about a different continent each day.

At the far end, there's the airlines, keeping track of what goes in or out of the member accounts. They are sure to spot a big jump in earnings from the everyday rewards pace to the drunken sailor rate.

Rarely could I say this: serfty, I beat you by 10 days

In jest, of course.

... wait until you go to another PO, or meet another counter demon in the same PO

Does anyone know if xs cards are accepted at Hilton and IHG hotels (or any others), given the 1.5% surcharge for credit card?

I thought the surcharge only applies to AMEX ???

I had not tried but EFTOS is equivalent to cash from your Savings AC so it should be OK.

Let us know if you do try.

Hilton certainly surcharged me for MasterCard recently...

as an aside I managed to pay my golf club fees recently with an XS card or two...remember they are wonderful for all bills*...and avoided a CC surcharge. Well done Westfield for providing this service

*have I mentioned they are good for all bills especially those that avoid circular flows?
