Westfield XS card

Interesting experience on the weekend. Went to purchase a XS card and this time around, the conceirge had to call the manager over who then, rather carefully, compared the name on my DL to that on my CC before putting the transaction through. This purchase was the exact same amout as I've purchased at this westfield in the past. The girl at the concierge desk mentioned something about a "new process for high value transactions"...

:-/

My last three transactions have been increasingly smaller, but have still attracted ID details and manager attention. Nevertheless, they sold them to me. I suspect I'm not going to get the bucketloads of points I imagined, but still it's a good way of extending the reach of CCs and generating a few thousand points here and there.

Similar experience on the weekend.

Slightly different in that the girl did not call anyone down as "I know you by now".

DL was explained to me as a fraud prevention measure in case someone stole your CC to buy the card(s).

No phone number was asked nor provided.

I have similar experience

They check the credit card against the license - I guess to make sure that the card is mine, but did not write down any details

I only buy 1 card at a time though

Cheers

I should further clarify my experiences.

Some place wrote down the DL details on the back of their own receipt.

Another place would only glance at the DL photo to confirm my ID.

So, it does appear that fraud prevention is the main objective here.

There must be a lot of stolen cards in circulation and WSF does not want to be left "holding the baby" some weeks later.

As I have mentioned previously, centres in Brisbane have generally checked my ID, not so at home. The local one doesn't bother because they know me. It's store specific but pretty common as anti-fraud, particularly is certain areas. I have had most other gift card providers (including Big W even) requesting ID of some sort to match against. There's no doubt a privacy argument but if they're not recording the details then it responsible of them for all involved.

So what are you inferring about the residents of Brisbane  !

I tried yesterday to buy a MasterCard prepaid card at Woolies with my cc and scan my EDR card. Not only could I load the prepaid MC using my cc but I wasn't even allowed. To scan my EDR to buy the mc with . Must be a better way

Hmm. Why do you expect edr points buying another cash card?

Im not expecting I'm experimenting . The xs process is too slow farting around for 1k QFF every week

Well, if there's a lot of fast farting going on, the various bodies involved are going to pull the plug. Either on individuals generating the bad smell, or collectively with changes to T&C.

1K points for nothing is not to be sneezed at - there's a huuuuuuge thread on EDR points - and it's very rare that I pick up more than a couple of hundred points a week via EDR. One card a week is better than EDR income. It's all gravy.

And one card a week is probably less than what can safely be gotten away with. Remember, these sort of cards generate big profits for the issuers; they aren't going to throttle their golden goose back too far. Not unless we and all our mates make pigs of ourselves.

Having said that, I am interested in the nuts and bolts of similar cards. If the fees aren't too high, points can be earned, and especially if EDR can be added in, then add me to the gravy train! Keep on experimenting and sharing the tips.

Are these new T&C's or has anyone received Velocity points for an online order?

https://www.velocityrewards.com.au/content/Info/EarnShoppingTerms/index.htm

Are you talking about buying things at Westfield.com.au (eg shoes) and paying with XS cards, or are you talking about buying $200 XS cards on Westfield.com.au for $204.95?

If it's the first, no, you do not earn points.
If it's the second, I believe that T&C applies to the first scenario.

When you buy XS cards on Westfield.com.au the site tells you how many Velocity points you will earn (410). Screenshot that if you place an order.
