Westfield XS card

The limits on the Load'n'Go Travel Card are a little more generous :)

great info here guys... couple things i have just found out though:

1) my card (NAB Qantas Platinum) does not have the option of paying via postbillpay so cant buy XS giftcard and pay at the PO with same XS card :(
2) has anyone looked into the Post Office Load'nGo reloadable Visa prepaid card. $6.95 initial activation fee and then zero reloading fees. I see they accept AMEX when you initially purchase with $20 loaded on the card but not sure if you can use AMEX to reload at the Post Office counter. WOuld be handy to pay ATO bills with this card and would be no questions asked for sure.

**edit** just found out you can reload with funds (up to max of $999 at a time and not more than $5k in 30 days) via postbillpay on the internet, using Visa and MAstercard only

You can reload the Load'N'Go Prepaid and Travel Cards at the post office with the XS card. You can also use a Visa or Mastercard to load the Load'N'Go Prepaid and Travel Cards over the web. Load'N'Go Prepaid however has a limit of $250 a day.

Thanks....will take a long time to pay large bills then :) I guess you could buy a truckload and do multiple $250 transactions?

Great addition to the knowledge

Here is a list of Credit Card Providers that I know of that accept payments at the post office

Amex
HSBC
Macquarie

again: thanks. I can confirm the first two and add the people going out to diner card otherwise known as "the most refused card in Australia"

The other trick when making payments at the post office using multiple cards (for example 5 Cards of $995) is to ask for making a payment of $4975 and then breaking up the payments over 5 EFTPOS transactions. Card companies then treat this as 1 payment instead of 5. End up saving on the transaction fees.

The Load'n'Go Travel Prepaid Card has a limit of $10000 if it helps. No Card activation fees either.

sorry I re-read this. You mean reload limits on the web? Not Spend? So it could be loaded up more than $250 at a PO and then used to pay ATO or other places that didn't take Amex or XS?

And just for my knowledge what would be the advantage of loading up with a visa or MC? Maybe if the loading is a purchase there may be an advantage in bringing points forward? Just guessing here

Thanks...you got in before my follow up.
I think Australia Post advertise a multi currency travel card as well. Thinking, thinking. Maybe that could be loaded with the XS card?

I am going to try and make a small payment using one of my old Citibank statements that had the bar code at one of the automated machines to see what happens. Will post the outcome

Thanks!!! Saves me trying it out. I had wondered about that.

The travel prepaid card that i am referring is the multi currency card and the gift cards can be used to load them.

Withdrawal from the ATM in case of an emergency (The emergency is usually a few miles missing for that great award)

legend!
Off to trawl through my statements to see if I have any others with bar codes.
You are lucky you have the machines. I have found the interaction with the PO staff a bit spooky at times. Australia Post (anyone listening here?) needs to fix this up if they want to make a big go of this Eftpos stuff. I am only a beginner so maybe they are picking up on that
In contrast when doing something vaguely similar (search long and hard on AFF or send me a PM) some months ago the bank staff didn't bat an eyelid at the possibly odd transactions.

for information:

and please add your findings

Fees for paying cc bills at the PO.

Diners: $1.15

HSBC: $2.95

Note these are not PO fees but are added to your cc account. There is of course a fee for buying the XS card. Although there are hints that this can be diminished/eliminated if buying in corporate amounts. Something else to be explored.

Also there is no extra fee for paying ATO at PO

I got a trainee at the post office near work and she has been a treat to deal with. She was a little amused though :)

Wonder if you can buy a new XS card with the balance of an older XS card - they say they accept EFTPOS?

Went to 2 PO's today, one with self serve; the other @ the checkout.

1) Self serve is good. BUT if you wish to cancel a bill payment, staff need to approve the cancellation! Paid $30 onto water bill.

2) Checkout (@ westfield) shop was also good. No questions asked on how I wished to pay / different cards used.
a) Westfield Gift Card fails to work on bills, only if I wish to purchase goods.
b) Paid another $30.00 via XS card purchased last week.
c) Actual credit cards are refused for water bills (and prolly other government bills!) paid @ the PO.

d) THOUGHT of the answer! She already made the transaction for two payments ($30.00 + $100.00), bla bla that she can't cancel the $100.00 part of the transaction, as the $30.00 has already been approved..... She suspended my payment(s), while I went to hunt for "cash transaction".

e) I arrived back with my brand spanking new XS card or $100.00 which was less then 10 minutes old (I checked the available balance via phone call), in which the bill has been paid VIA CREDIT CARD, through the use of XS CASH!

Don't wait for the 1-2 days activation suggestion/rule, instead log online or use the phone to check the current available balance!

Shall be starting my points top up once my new CC arrives (postie approved bill payments via XS points transfer ;) )

So, in summary, can you please confirm if you can pay CC bills with a barcode via the self-service machines with an XS card at the post office?

Can you also withdraw cash from an ATM with the XS card, or transfer money to another account, or can it only be used for purchases?!
