Todayā€™s food at Periwinkle, Peregian. I had a Tuscan tarte flambe and an apple tart.

No fire. But obviously a big day for birthdays as lots of little cakes with a sparkler stuck in them came out. None at our table.

At the Duckstein Brewery in the Swan Valley today. One platter of Nurnberg Bratwurst and the other a Pork Knuckle. We shared the two platters between 5 of us and there was a box of leftovers for tomorrow. The food was fine but not extraordinarily good. The pork knuckle was a lot lighter in colour than what we experienced in Germany and Prague in 2022. As I expected the food was about 2 1/2 times dearer than in Germany last year and the beer about twice the price. There was an even greater difference compared to Prague prices.

I made a mistake and ordered a Dunkel (dark beer). In itself it was perfectly good but I forgot that while I enjoy drinking it in Germany when the temperature is around 15 C it was not quite so nice at 35 C.

Tonightā€™s dinner was at Il Vento at the Wharf, Mooloolaba. Mrsdrron had the gnocchi with mushrooms and a creamy truffle sauce and I had the Sardinian pasta with seafood. Both very good.

We had a small family get together for lunch yesterday. My wife decided to go German. We started off with Currywurst (Bratwurst with homemade paste) as a snack - no picture.

Then Beef Stroganoff, and Hahnchenkeulen (German Crispy Baked Chicken) with lots of paprika, cayenne pepper, hot Indian curry powder and honey. Potato bake, baby carrots and two types of beans (one without bacon). The Rotkohl (sweet/sour red cabbage) was from a jar.

We finished off with my contribution of a Cherry/Blueberry Strudel plus custard, fruit salad etc.
