What I ate today - the food thread

All you guys are too fancy :) Basic food can be good too!

This was my dinner tonight. A bbq steak, with some steamed silverbeet, and some steamed beetroot leaves. Both of the latter harvested lovingly from my new vege garden as the sun set.

And a quite lovely Chilean shiraz - I have no better glasses here yet so have to do with what I have :)

I really enjoyed it. To eat something you have grown is always good. And temperature! Notice the steam. I love fresh, hot food.

My boozy dinner tonight in Arshan, eastern Siberia.

These are boozys, traditional Buryat (local people) meat filled dumplings.

Eaten with your fingers. The trick is, they each have about a table spoon or 2 of hot liquid in their base. Bite into it the wrong way and you wear it all down your shirt! ( You can see from the plate that I'm a 'boozy expert')

Another tasty meal in North China. IMG_20181002_195832.jpg Pork belly, tofu, mussels in a spicy sauce, silk worm lave (don't knock them till you try them. They are very good), salad, washed down with cold beer. Restaurant was packed for Golden Week.

What’s the flavour and texture of the larvae like?

When they are crispy fried that have a semi crunchy texture on the outside and a little softer inside. A little sort of nutty chicken flavour but very difficult to describe. They also serve them soft cooked but I don't care for them cooked that way.
