What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

Re: F seating on Qantas A380

Though isn't your head near to the aisle on the K side when lying down? I didn't spend too much time down that aisle, so haven't seen the angles between the seats.

I think it was the general additional ambient light in the cabin which may have disturbed them. They don't fly much, were in 4K and 5K, and were perhaps were a bit sensitive to their surroundings. I generally don't notice these things myself either, and have a good set of my own eye-shades to combat these issues also.

I have a couple of sectors in 5K next week so will make a point of checking for reflections etc.

Re: F seating on Qantas A380

One very important thing to remember when travelling in the pointy end downstairs is never, ever walk towards the rear of the aircraft.
It's terrible. There are lots and lots of people crammed into small spaces, and its just really depressing :) :)

some of the comments you hear when in 5K from the economy pax having a peak in the F cabin are quite funny, last one I picked up was, jeez that seat is bigger than my lounge

there are a couple on airliners.net but not too many, I have a couple but that includes me in them and that would take away lot of the charm and style of QF F

Re: F seating on Qantas A380

Was 2/3/4 K not available ?

Or you chose 5K for a reason ?

I'd have thought 5K is a little close to the galley with a risk of noise & chatter filtering through.

Thanks

The A side is nice and quiet as 4 less passengers to stroll past.
But there's no bad seat in F, seriously.
I sat in 5K last week and slept like a baby :D

I actually prefer 5K for that reason - the proximity to the galley means the FAs can always see when your wine glass is empty and take appropriate immediate action...

If I'm up working during the flight I'm happy to be able to pop back to the galley area to stretch my legs and chat to the FAs without disturbing others in the cabin, and similarly whe sleeping I don't get disturbed when pax get up to use the dunny or wander around (as unsurprisingly the FAs are far better at waking around quietly than other passengers).

I made a mistake when posting it was actually 5J
Last seat in the cabin and my first ever middle seat in F. It was surprisingly quiet.
I had 1K last week DXB-MEL, more foot traffic, some noise from the bedding cupboards opening and closing.
One of the most obnoxious passengers ever in 2K  Complained about 2J's carry-on in his overhead bin and the FA had to move it, I offered the remaining space above my seat.

Hi folks,

So my SYD - DXB - LHR flight in F done I thought I'd comment on my seat 3A.

When the middle row has their privacy screens up all the A seats are very private, zero galley noise in 3A nor did I hear the Y passengers in the cabin behind.

Very nice seat, highly recommend it.

Re: F seating on Qantas A380

He must have thought that the F ticket comes with an exclusive licence to the overhead locker.

Do you mean 5F - middle "column"?

For those who may have been able to compare, but how does the food offering in F compare to J (both A380 that is)?
ie variety, serving size, flexibility...?

The food itself is probably of similar quality, but the main difference is the presentation and service.

I can't relate specifically to the A380 as I've not experienced J on the A380, but assuming it's similar to 747 J the food service is still cart based - although you get a menu upon boarding you choose your options when they wheel the cart around the cabin and the food is served on trays economy-style.

In F the food service is more like a restaurant - your menu choices are taken, prepared in the galley and brought to your seat individually.

The quality of the food is probably very similar between J and F, unless you get the tasting option (only on selected ex-Australia flights) where they often have premium ingredients you won't get in J (caviar, shellfish etc).

Flexibility is a big difference too - if I'm particularly hungry I've been known to order 3-4 of the entree / main selections over the course of a few hours rather than going for the normal entree-main-dessert menu, and that request never raises an eyebrow.

Did F in 380 at end of August and J in 747 a few weeks ago, so not quite the comparison you are looking for. However differences I noticed (that bugged me, being a spoiled brat), is no canapés in J - I really like getting a drink straight away with nice hot canapé, not just a packet of pretzels and nuts. chocolates were a nice truffle in F and nothing much in J. The "nice" ice-cream was a lovely vanilla with a chocolate covering in F, just tubs in J. There was a degustation in F. Mr FM had the cheese plate in both F and j and he said it was similar with nicer cheese in F. From memory there were a few more food choices in F than J, although I thought the food was good in both. My biggest disappointment was the bubbly - really didn't think much of the Billecart in J - maybe not dry enough for me?

For me the biggest differences were the mattress and doona in F - so much more comfortable than that silly mat in J - not really sure it serves any purpose! Also the flight attendants in F are so much better. It is not that the ones in J were bad - they did what was needed and the guy we had on our return flight was excellent. The ones in F are just so much more attentive and I just like being cosseted. :)

Generally the trip in J left me underwhelmed and has made me rethink my flying strategy - I realise now that I like flying in F and previously I thought I would rather fly J with Qantas than F with someone else and I no longer think that is true! I have been pretty much a Qantas passenger for 40 years with some BA and once Ethihad (and of course other airlines where neither QF or BA were available). However time to realise that Qantas is now a listed company with a duty to its shareholders, so it needs to get rid of routes and take away F where necessary, so I need to move with the times and explore other options....

so from what i read....you enjoyed your FIRST experience...but you EXPECT your BUSINESS experience to be EQUAL!!! FIRST and BUSINESS will always have a differential no matter which airline you fly....so you are never going to be pleased  ... i refer to your own words.... 'spolied brat'

Wow, that must be an epiphany moment !

Pity, you are not the only one.

Most of us is already aware of that (difference).

Re: F seating on Qantas A380

On that very subject F v J - on SQ the SYTs in FA dept are relegated to J and Y - not to be found in Suites or F.

Is this same scenario on QF? Do they send the young stunners down back on QF or am I likely to encounter them in F? :D

Not personally seen any young stunners of the female variety in F, the odd male FA is in that category but almost invariably bats for the other team ;)
