Hilton on the Park did have an Exec lounge; I have used it at least 20 times in the last three years most recently in November. It was on the 18th Floor overlooking the MCG.

I note that you can not currently book an "Exec" room.

I do know the hotel is to undergo significant refurbishment, perhaps this is the start of that.

The Melbourne Airport Hilton does not have an "exec Lounge".

Our first activity on the Easter weekend was to visit St Patrick's Cathedral, on one edge of Fitzroy Gardens.

Finding no parking on that side of the Gardens, I ended up parking 30m from the corner of the park opposite the Hilton on the Park.

While the location is handy to the MCG it certainly didn't impress me from the street.
Our city location on Lt Bourke St was much handier for us and then the final night's stay at the airport Hilton was an absolute pleasure. :p

From what I understand the HOTP is part way through its refurb. I saw an ad about refurbished rooms bing available and the conference facilities are due to be available again from May. The exec floor was targetted with a full refurb so it may indeed be out of action for the time being.

There are nice rooms at the HOTP and not so nice ones. The higher floors have been refurb'd and the lower ones remain unfurb'd (I believe).

The restaurant / bar area at the MEL Hilton was visually energetic.

The refurbed room was great. I didn't take a photo of the bathroom but will put the room pics online and add a link. The desk overlooking the view was excellent and I liked it best of all the places we stayed in Melbourne.

I hope the new Exhibition Centre Hilton is as good.

Amazing vista of the airport and we had the windows cleaned that day, so nothing was getting in the way of the view. :)

Has anybody had any experience with using the 20% food and beverage discount and not receiving it for purchases below $50? Last week I used the card at the Hilton Sydney for a couple of beers with a mate. The total was about $15 and the HPC card discount was applied. However, just tonight I tried to use it at the Hilton Cairns at the bar and was told it was only valid with purchases of $50 and over. I've come back to the hotel and checked the fine print and, yes, $50 is the minimum spend.

Has anybody been able to use it for purchases less than $50 or was I just lucky?

Just to update on Hilton on The Park melbourne-the Exec lounge has been refurbished and is open.We stayed the first week of April.Occupancy is low-40% that week. Was lower over Easter so they closed Exec lounge.Ballroom etc scheduled to be open this month. No problem being upgraded to exec floor.
So with that stay then sydney have already recovered the cost of the 2 year membership.

Danger,

Where did you find is the $50 minimum written? If it's on the back of the card it certainly is in the 'fine print' as there is some there that I can't even read :!:
Having read on I've now found it in the T&C on the web site, though I have not seen this particular limit previously and have certainly never had it applied. Having said that I have always added these items to my room account in the past even though this should have no effect on the outcome.

Straitman, yep, in the fine printed terms and conditions. You're right, it's not on the back of the card or in the 'early' part of the website that lists the benefits. I'm very surprised there is no asterix after the 20% discount, on the back of the card (which, as you say, is very hard to read) and on the website. Hopefully even their staff don't know the full detail of the program and I can have the same luck you've had in having it applied under $50.

I've been a HPC member since early '05. This $50 minimum came in early 2006 when they changed it from 1 free meal per group to a broard 20% discount.

This $50 only applies with casual dining/drinking. It does not apply when booking an eligible charge to your room when a guest of the hotel.

I used the HPC card at the Hilton Melbourne Airport last night, just for a club sandwich and a beer. I wasn't staying at the hotel. I handed over the card and got the 20% discount, no questions asked.

I have just been onto HPC to activate a 'Member for a Stay' voucher for 'Flashware' and the recorded message says to please allow up to 24 hrs for them to return the call.

Hardly a good enough response in my opinion.

*Gone* 2 Tickets to Private Movie Screening "Indiana Jones .." in Melbourne

The registration is for 6:45pm at Hoyts Melbourne Central, Monday 26.

They are free to whomever PM's me first - I will post them off this evening.

If no response, will advertise further ...

If one books a room at a Hilton hotel on the prepaid rate is the credit card charged the full amount or the discounted amount for Premium Club? I have been trying to book a night and have not taken the booking to the payment stage yet but cannot see where the 20% discount is applied to the booking.

At what point is the 20% discount applied to the hotel booking?

I don't book pre-paid very often, but when I have, the Hotel does the charging -it is not done immediately on-line.

One would hope they check the comments part for the HPC reference before they do so.

I suspect a call to the hotel may help; or if this doesn't, keep you eye on you CC transactions. If it come through at the full rate (rather than the HPC 80% rate), a call to the hotel reservations desk should do the trick.

... still a pain if it happens.

Unfortunately I have always been charged the pre-paid rate almost immediately. In this case the prepaid rate is $160/night as opposed to the fully flexible rate of $205/night so with the 20% discount I am saving around $30/night. As the flights will be locked in I want to ensure that I get the premium club discount.

I am also a little surprised that booking through the Hilton Premium club website the 20% discount does not automatically get applied to the room rate....

I don't believe the Treasury or Jupiter's participate in the HPC.

AFAIK, these are the only Conrads in Oz/NZ.

Both hotels barely recognise a HHonors card, so it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't recognise anything else.

2 quick Qs about the $99 stay card that comes with the package:-
1) Can I give the card for someone else to use?
2) Does it count as a stay?

It varies. Certainly If you book online using the URL and the Hilton family booking engine it should (due to HHonors T&C). If you book directly with the hotel it might not.

I have not tried the online booking as yet.
