Australian state border restrictions

The bigger risk with travel to SA is their definition of close contact where being somewhere for 15 mins that an unmasked positive attends can see you end up in a medi hotel quarantine.

SA is not following the definition tabled at national cabinet.

Mainly a honesty system now and from what I see/hear the only real close contacts isolating are family members of same household.

Easier if your a local, but as a visitor if you get caught up you dont have a suitable place they are still shipping you off to Toms Court or similar. Im wanting a weekend in ADL but wont be going til they change the crazy 15 min rule.

True but no chance of getting caught up if you don’t use QR to check in line everyone else.
Masks are still worn pretty much everywhere so it would only be if you were unlucky enough to be in a restaurant right next to a person who is positive and even then if you haven’t checked in they can’t track you 🤣

Make a run for the border/airport if they do!

SA definition of close contact

Who is a close contact?

In South Australia a ‘close contact’ is defined as:

  • a household member or intimate partner of a COVID-19 case during their infectious period
  • someone who has had close personal interaction with a COVID-19 case during their infectious period:
    • for 15 minutes or more and
    • where masks are not worn and
    • in close physical proximity and
    • in an indoor setting
  • someone who has been notified by SA Health that they are a close contact
  • someone who has been to an exposure site during the exposure period for that site.
COVID-19 cases are considered infectious two days before their symptoms started or if they didn’t have any noticeable symptoms, they are considered infectious two days before they had their positive COVID-19 test taken. The infectious period ends 10 days after they had their positive test taken.

Most close contacts will receive an SMS from SA Health. However, if you know you are a close contact, please do not wait for the SMS – get tested and quarantine immediately.

Friend is at the Pullman (though he has COVID) - said it's pretty good. He said he had the choice of that or Tom's Court.

I can't even keep up with SA and the hairdresser, so are people still being locked up in hotels for being close contacts? Or is it just confirmed cases that have no where to isolate?

Have a trip rapidly approaching and I won't be checking in anywhere that's for sure.

confirmed cases that have nowhere to isolate - they wouldn't have enough rooms for all the positive cases in SA now

And from what I’ve heard hotel capacity is quite low so not many being sent there currently

So son tested positive on Saturday morning with RAT and had an earlier PCR. RAT showed two very red lines. He knew to isolate from waking up. Still no PCR result so no contact from SA Health. I did read they expected people to start the official isolate from the date of the result. Yeah. Nah.
