I just checked facebook Johnk as I missed all the action too.But I cant tell you.;)
I only check occasionally-a good way to check on the grandkids.:oops:
I do find out about some good offers though if I can be bothered sifting through all the static.

A distant family member said to me that it depressed her seeing what I was up to when she was stuck at home!!

I'd never thought of it like that before.

Indeed, it is sometimes easy to forget how others perceive these things. I am actually a very infrequent traveller, but some of my friends perceive me as travelling "all the time".

I check into each new city/airport I'm in, that way other friends I have in said city know I'm around and we can organise a catch up.

I like checking a some spots because if you are in a new town you just might catch up with someone for a beer or 2.

I once checked in in TSV and had a ph call and then went out for a very big night with some mates.

I didn't know that a few of them had the next day off work. Big bugger was I had to work the next day.

Agreed. The key is moderation. One of the great benefits of facebook is better connecting you with people you already know.

As you well know from my facebook, I do check-in, but not all the time. As a general rule I will only check-in if (a) I have something to say, or (b) I have a lot of spare time, so random meetups are feasible.

I had a 22 hour delay in LAX about 2 years ago. The airline paid for a night at the LAX Hilton which was fine, and my facebook check-in resulted in 2 friends arriving at the hotel around 9am. We drove around all day, had a great time, and then they dropped me back around 5pm in time for the rescheduled departure.

An ongoing discussion on Facebook regarding a few drinks.... This was my reply to an AFF member who scoffed at the idea of Orange Juice and Gin.

I hope you like it.

No.... But try Gin and Grapefruit Juice... As a combo I find it amazing... It adds the "Essential Alcohols" into what would otherwise just be Grapefruit Juice. As an added bonus... It is not easily detected on one's breath and you can even fool those around you into thinking that you are possibly on some "De-Tox".. Quadruple Rainbow!!

The science part of me reckons that the grapefruit juice acts somewhat like a foil to the gin just like tonic water would - both are bitter, though tonic water obviously has a bit of fizz to it - but the grapefruit juice brings a fruity dimension, a bit more sweetness and covers the additional bitterness afforded mostly by a slice of lemon sometimes served with a G&T.

My guess! (This is from someone who has had as many G&Ts in his life as can be counted on one hand)

My rule on Facebook is that I only post a status update if it meets the phone call test - if I would take the time to call someone and tell them what I was going to say, it can be a status update. This avoids me posting photos of what I was eating (unless it was spectacular) or posting about how I need more coffee, etc. Stream of consciousness is how most people seem to use Facebook, but I find that it's far more useful and engaging if you can get away from that.

QF really needs to sort out it's opening times for the JLounge bar in Sydney. It is a bit poor when you can't get a drink at 5:40 AM.

USD10 - USD12 per photo. To be honest, for profiteering photos at attractions, they could do a lot worse than that.

Ouch. Everything's bigger in the U.S -- Including the cost of the Disney photos.

It's for a download/CD of the PhotoPass photos (taken by their photographers with Tink/in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle, etc). As we were only there for one day, I was dealing with my bout of food poisoning from the night before, and we didn't want to spend time meeting characters, we didn't have that many taken. Our three-day trip in 2010 resulted in about 30-50 PhotoPass photos.

I wonder if you can pioneer a speakeasy-likeness when the lounge bar isn't open. You know, like moonshine - except we need a different name for it.....

You could raid the free wine tasting stands, however IME their wine is a bit hit and miss.

Now that is not a bad idea. I should have purchased duty free gin in SIN, and made one of my famous coughtails.......a splash of gin mixed with...er.....well......er a rather larger splash of gin. I call it "Gin Surprise". It would have been the perfect pick me up for my, ahem, "fragility" after my journey from blighty.

Another day back in the UK but I am not flying anywhere today.

Yesterday I flew from ARN-OSL-BGO on SAS flying an MD-81 and B737-700.

Yesterday evening I flew BGO-LHR on an BMI A320 with a BA flight number.

The aircraft had a G-MED? aircraft rego and these aircraft were used by British Med, they were purchased by BMI, these aircraft had flown with BA flight numbers to routes in Africa. BA are probably only going to keep the flights that actually make money, there was no one in business class that I could tell.

Some nice sunshine today, been a while. The sun is even shining further north where I am at the moment.

I would have expected a New South Welshmen to have announced the football score by now.

NSW 16 - QLD 12, at least I will be home to watch the decider.
Assuming anyone cares about State of Origin. Personally I think it is a waste of time and would rather have the players available for Manly just in case they can manage to get into another grand final. ;)

Thanks doc! Keep me guessing and no I am not that intigued to bother joining Facebook. :p

I went to a function in Canberra yesterday evening where Qantas was not quite the flavour of the day. The Chief of Airforce was two hours late as Qantas cancelled two successive flights out of Sydney :!:

Surely the Cheif of Airforce could have made alternate arrangements for a slightly faster option than a DHC8 or 734 typically operated by QF on that route ;)

Another update, I had a quick look at Oxford Airport, not a lot to see but I took a picture of the sign.

I wonder if Ryanair might start flying there. ;)

Now I am heading back to London on a bus with free wifi, I stayed the night with a work contact in Eynsham , yes I know there is not much water in that part of the UK. Last month I had heard about this particular bus company that has free wifi on their buses between Oxford to London Heathrow and London Victoria. I just never thought I would use that piece of information fast, what I remember can scare some people. ;)
