    Wise debit card

What are the exchange rates like? 'no fees' exchanges are usually a con because they hit you with anything from 2% to 4% difference from the spot rate. Can anyone tell me how much they differ?

Purchasing bulkhead seats on A380 Emirates

In my experience the bulkhead seats have significantly less leg room, but obviously much more knee room. Being tall, it's a mixed bag for me. My knees hate being pushed, so it helps, but I can't really stretch my legs at all except into the neighbours footwell. Another problem is the narrower...

Heading to Sydney Kingsford-Smith to fly to UK

Also interested, making the same trip on the 1st. Seriously hoping the lounge is open, or I'm gonna be peeved. That's a bit more than miffed.

    Ooo matron

He he. I know I'll cop some flak, but Aussie beer is just not up to scratch! I do love a real bitter too. Probably the only thing I miss about the auld country, apart from family.

    Ooo matron

Hi @Peanutbladder Good on yer. Expat here too, 20 years odd, slumming it in the tropical north :) I'm off to the UK this year as well, first trip for nearly 3 years! I'm keen to hear about all experiences. I'm especially interested in the situation at Sydney, as I'm leaving on June 1st...

Airfare keeps rising by the minute..??

I agree with VPS. In addition, fuel costs may be causing continual increases. It's difficult to tell. I'm just glad I bought my flights in March!

Business Class transfer to a different flight

For onboard refreshments, you get what you are due for the seat, not your ticket. It works both ways, though. I recall a flight when I went to the USA with my mother at 15 (my first jumbo and long haul flight, many, many moons ago!) and we were put in premium economy for some unknown reason...

Flight changed to before I arrive!

I had similar yesterday with VA, so avoiding Qantas won't help! I had a flight booked in September, and they put it back by an hour. That won't work for me, so I opted to go the next day. Luckily I could happily stay with friends another night. Of course, the only options on the email are...

    Iceland accommodation tips?

I tend to use Google Maps to find accommodation. It includes many independent places as well as those using the major sites. Typically the website is listed, but at the very least you can get the name to search, or a phone number. It's also handy because I can calculate driving times between...

    Buying Velocity points

No, it was a general offer. I believe that I heard about it here. I ended up buying the minimum at a 30% discount as it just allowed me to get a return business class flight for about half of the standard cash price. Not cheap, but I'm happy enough. Note that the sons of bachelors actually...

    Airline & Country Mask Requirements

Quite frankly, I'm of the opinion that it's only right to give the airline staff some additional safety by wearing a mask most of the time. They are forced, at least by the nature of their occupation, to be in repeated contact with huge numbers of people. Personally, I detest masks, and find...

    Renewing Child Passport

This is the reason. A very sensible one, too. As an adult the biometric information tends to match decade on decade. Obviously, for children it won't.

    Transit time in Dubai

My experience at Dubai has always been pretty rough. I used to have to walk halfway across the airport, and then go through security again (in a transit). It took absolutely ages. It always annoyed me because I was travelling business class, wanting to buy duty free (cheaper there) and use the...

Qantas Premium Platinum Mastercard (issued by Citibank) - fraud on unactivated cards

It sounds like they have a leak in their system. Either a hacker or a rogue employee skimming details. I cannot see any other explanation, if the card details were never entered anywhere for the three fraudulently used cards.

Memorable experiences going through airport security?

The weirdest one I had was at Gatwick. They obviously noticed some currency in my bag. I travel a lot, and keep spare currency, maybe a few dozen notes in all. They insisted on checking it. Why weird? Well, they're security, not customs. And as far as I'm aware there's absolutely no rule about...

    London to Brisbane (Via Darwin)

Whatever happens, since it's all on one booking, Qantas will definitely make sure that passengers get to their final destination.

US man charged with carrying loaded gun through SYD

He probably only had it to protect himself from drop bears, after all.

EK415 timing change [15 hours earlier]

Emirates appear to be extremely accommodating on this particular issue. I'm not sure if that's because they stuffed up. my agent said she'd never had an airline fix a problem so quickly and with so little hassle. You need to ask, though.

EK415 timing change [15 hours earlier]

Dubai connect does not apply if there's a possibility of a shorter layover in Dubai. Emirates admitted that it was a mistake. The selected flight should have been at the same time, not the the same flight no. Mine was because they reintroduced the A380 for both flights.

EK415 timing change [15 hours earlier]

I had the exact same issue. Phoned my travel agent and she said emirates sorted it immediately. My flight was changed to the original time. That flight still exists, the 6:00 am one was added. Nobody knows why emirates made this mistake. My assumption is that they want to fill this horrendously...
