I bought a voucher 18 Dec for $2k and paid a $2.095k international ticket (inclusive of taxes), then booked next day through the redeem voucher web portal and only paid the $95 balance, ticket is now issued ready for Jan travel. This has changed from last year (can pay taxes).

Just bought a voucher today (29/12):

All 3 vouchers I purchased today showed 15/12 as the expiry date on the final page, showing the booking reference.

It has always been like that.

Same as mine, all showing 15 December expiry and the ones purchased on 24th Dec showing 10th December.

Maybe it's a Platinum 1 benefit ;) :D

Strange:confused:- whilst the relocs for the Gift Voucher bookings don't show in My Bookings, when I go into each booking it shows my name and QFF number. Do I just ring up to have them pushed to "My Bookings", or do I go back to the BA MMB option to insert my QFF number?

Well here's the thing...

I bought 2 vouchers. First one, on the final page showed 15 Dec but the 2nd one, done about 15 minutes later (I waited for the email to come in) showed 29th, which caught my eye. SO I went to the PDF for the first voucher I got, and it says 29th December expiry!

I brought up the voucher on qf.com and it says 29 Dec too. go figure. The other thing is the earlier voucher has a 798..." start of the reference, the later one has an earlier (795...) reference. I know they are essentially random, but my understanding always was that they tend to follow a consecutive sequence of available PNR's (ie: those not holding current bookings) within the 6 digit range. Anyway that's a minor aside.

Mine don't even include the FF# until I redeem them, but then the reissued vouchers (say I have a remainder >$2 :D) has the FF# and shows up in my bookings.

Must be a Platinum One Benefit :D

That's how I thought it worked as well. BA MMB required for the initial voucher to be on Qantas website. But I couldn't get that to work last year.

Another Qantas inconsistency? I have witnessed this a few times. Do they batch the PNR's on different servers and if one server is down for any length of time some PNR's could get out of sync?

It's really a minor thing.. and an issue for amadeus rather than QF themselves. Just found it a bit interesting. Trivia like that interests me :)

For a bit more trivia my vouchers from today in time order were: 8[X]F, 79[Y], 8[X]I, 8[X]B

Note [X] is the same letter and [Y] is a number. Created over about an hour around midday. Also 1 is not I.

After reading this lengthy thread and some of the posts from previous years, not sure if I am now better informed or my head has exploded:)

For the pros out there, most of my travel in the next 12 months will be 1 trip from Perth to Sydney with my wife and 2 x Perth to Melbourne on my lonesome. Would you suggest buying 4 x $500 vouchers or larger/smaller denominations working on the assumed return fare of roughly $520?

I would suggest 1 voucher for 2 persons of value $500 per person (total $1000) to cover the trip with your wife.

Then either 2 vouchers for 1 person at $500 per person/voucher or 1 voucher for 1 person of $1000 value. This will cover your 2 trips to Melbourne. Personally I would use the 2 voucher option. But 1 $1000 voucher can work provided there is time separation between booking the Melbourne trips.

Just remember everyone - today's the last day to get 10 pts / $. Offer ends at midnight tonight.

Here I thought the only reason we were buying the gift vouchers was for the points
Some people actually want to fly (and save the fees) - novel idea

...

It has always been like that.
No - the original Gift Vouchers could only be used once and for an amount up to the actual fare - the +++ component had to be paid in $$$.

e.g. A $100 Voucher could not be used on an $110 all up booking where the fare was less than $100 (e.g. Fare $85 and +++ of $25). A $50 voucher could be used on said fare. (Of course there would never be residual credit to deal with back then.)

This had changed by the second of these more recent 10x bonus promotions a year or two ago.

Want to use a voucher for EK F flights SYD-AKL-SYD but I can only list Y or J on the redeem voucher page.

Can I call up and they can book F on the phone using a voucher ?

Try retrieving the booking using the reference number on the main site then try to search.
