10 pts / $ for Qantas Vouchers - Back for Xmas 2014

Of course it goes without saying you can't combine vouchers - one per booking, and any international travel must originate in AU. Multi city is out also.

I too am thinking the smaller vouchers would be better as it was a complete PITA last year with residuals, and will wait until they issue the ticket voucher before use as that caused no end of issues with points posting!

As much as there is a bit of pain with residual vouchers, in terms of maximising points earned through this promotion compared to total $$s that need to be outlayed, larger vouchers are still better value.

E.g. If a typical fare is $180, and if you buy a $500 voucher, you'll get 3 flights out of this, and then have to pay an extra $40 on the balance of the thrid purchase. 5000 points for total outlay of $540.

If you buy 3 individual $150 vouchers for these 3 flights, you have to pay a remaining balance of $30 each flight, so a total of $540 for only 4500 points (3 * $150 * 10 pts).

I'll probably be sticking with some larger value vouchers. Yes, they can be tricky if you don't know what you're doing, but overall, I've managed to cope with them.

I provided some data back to QF through QF Loyalty earlier in the year regarding the re-issued remaining-value vouchers and how we had to call up to get comments removed etc. to be able to use MMB. While I don't know if that produced a result, I will be interested to give it a go and see the result. Fingers-crossed they got it sorted.

On balance its sounds like most will be buying vouchers but there is no agreement about the best strategy. I guess it just reflects that we all have different travel needs.

If the system works well, the there is only one strategy. Unfortunately, that's not the case, therefore, the most appropriate strategy is a balance between the lure of bonus points and the risk of wasting time/foregoing residual value. If one never had problems, one would max out the bonus points. If one has been burnt previously, what they do, depends on how badly they were burnt.

But I think bottom line is, for anyone who plan to travel QF in the next 12 months, you should at least get a $50 for each trip/leg/booking.

I assessed my travel plans for the next 12 months and bought based on that.

Just a some questions, I was looking at purchasing some gift vouchers to be used with my mothers up and coming trip. I understand that the traveler must be listed as the recipient and its non-transferable? Also How long does it take for the vouchers to be issued?

The names can be changed when the voucher is redeemed. They are issued immediately.

Thanks. When you say redeemed.. do you mean booked or are they 2 separate processes?
So how should I best approach this? Considering that the flights are 1.6k, I would like to buy a 2k voucher and spend it on the flight and keep the residue amount for my future flights. Would this be possible?

Do I nominate myself as the recipient first then nominate once I 'redeem' it?

to be honest, i would do 1500 and not have a residual.

if I wanted to book for a party of 4 where each return ticket costs around $900, totalling $3600, can I pay all of that with a single voucher? say $3500?
or do I have to split the bookings to 4 individual ones ?

The vouchers are on a per pax basis. You'd be limited to $500 vouchers unless you try to get the balance credit from a $1000 voucher. Some on this forum have indicated that can be a PITA

If you want all 4 people on the same booking, then you'd select the voucher value closest to the flight value per person, so $500 in this instance.

As Jeffrey O'Neill indicated, you could select $1000 voucher per person, but you'd be left with a residual voucher for 4 people @ $100. So unless you know of an instance where 4 people will be travelling together on another flight/booking together, I'd go with the $500 per person option. (Keep in mind, for the residual value voucher, you can change the nominated travellers when you go to use the second voucher).

I would buy a $1500 voucher in the name of the intended traveller. The purchaser gets the 10points/$ but do not have to listed as the receipent of the voucher.

But another voucher for your travel.

Thanks. Sadly, I was in a hurry as the travel dates were fairly close. I'll keep this in mind for next time. I don't believe QF offers a $1500 option. Its either $1000 or $2000. Anyways, I made my purchases and redeemed the voucher last night. How long does it generally take for the residual voucher to get returned? I've yet to receive an email after the invoice was issued. Do I have to chase QF at some point?

Perhaps give it 24 hours. Usually it's pretty quick.
