Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I certainly have not said anything about affirmative action. Especially as my position is that there are plenty of competent women who seem to have been excluded just because they are women.
"Seem". You don't know. You're just having a whinge.

Tell me, do you think Malcolm Turnbull would have had a different approach, or is it just Tony Abbott you're labelling a misogynist?

What about Brendan Nelson? Would you describe Bronwyn Bishop as competent?

...Would you describe Bronwyn Bishop as competent?

That's the best one that I've seen today. :D

Skyring, is anyone going to bite?

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

She's hopeless at least Bob Brown came across as someone who was passionate about his beliefs and genuinely cared for the environment. She's just a rabid left winger who wants to tax everything.
But you think everyone who disagrees with you is a rabid left winger...

I hope so!

I'll be very interested to see how Bronny goes as Speaker. Perhaps, with Labor reduced to a safe minority, she'll be able to snooze through Question Time.

No not everyone I've mellowed over the last week but I really don't think she does your party any favors she's not in Bob Browns league

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

The greens % of the vote was abysmal ......new leadership might see them avoid heading down the same exit route as the Democrats.

Heaven help them if they recruit more people like Senator Rhiannon.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Where did this come from? Does this now mean that we all have to declare our hand?

:shock::shock::shock:

Nope. People do whatever they want to here with in the t&c

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Bob Brown has a long history in environmental action. His credentials there are impeccable. He's also a lovely man who was able to perform effectively in the political arena - not something you see often.

His replacement is none of these things.

I grew to like him over the years.....I'd wager his replacement in the senate Peter Whish-Wilson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia will take over the leadership & probably do a good job.

They're not my party. There are plenty of non-trivial issues I disagree with the Greens on.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I think this thread should be renamed Abbot in Government (Directors cut) :)

How about a politics free zone next election?

How about totally off AFF?

These type of fanatical discussions do not belong anywhere on this site. And yes I know the Off-topic thread is there but that is for light hearted humour, general coughing and some stirring.

I'm inclined to agree. There is more heat than light in these discussions, and what fun there is gets submerged in the unpleasantness.

I love talking politics, but when one is confronted by zealots unable to accept any opinion other than their own or that of their political team, it becomes pointless.

The greens candidate Janet Rice in Victoria, that got elected, has an interesting background.
Her husband who she had 2 children with, underwent sex change surgery a decade ago. The two remained married.

Good on them ... if that works for them then its a good outcome.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Well I live in Fisher and would much rather a Brough than a Slipper.

Seems like the Coalition's laws on marriage would make that particularly one null and void.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Do you agree with anybody? :)
As I've stated before, if I were to pick a party, it would probably be the Democrats.

With that said, there's not a huge amount of Greens policy I disagree with - but the things I do tend to be stuff like, say, nuclear power.

I think it was the surgery had that result.
