Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Oh to be sooo proper, Krudd is my neighbor, everyone in the 'hood calls him Kevo to his face.

Lets not get too serious:cool:

And you know those friendly terms are just not what I'm talking about. :p

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

There would be nothing to claim if the ALP didn't bugger the whole boat thing up!

6 years in power.....only to end up where you started is a failure.
Indeed, but Labor is unlikely to accept their failure, and we have the problem with us in the present moment.

Tony Abbott is now holding the reins and it's time to be firm. Time to follow through, if Rudd's thought bubble works, time for positive action if it doesn't.

The PNG thing has problems in the long term. It only works if the message is accepted by the people-smugglers and their customers now. If they keep coming, then it will quickly become obvious that the solution doesn't scale. PNG has even less ability to absorb thousands of refugees than we do.

Abbott had better be working on a Plan B.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

You mean like Rudd & Gillard claimed to have saved Australia from the GFC by spending the money that had been accumulated by previous Governments.

No thats not the same thing at all. Mr Rudd/Ms Gillard never claimed to have accumulated the money but Mr Abbott will claim to have "stopped the boats"

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Slavery. Look, there you go again. Elephant in the room and you're happy to paint it out of sight instead of acknowledge it.

Of course ending the fossil fuel energy monster is a good thing. But there are three things about it.

First, we are still digging up coal and sending it overseas. Gillard was actually subsidising the coal miners. She was proud that it was a growth industry.

Second, if the oceans are going to rise, our contribution will be a cupful. The way some of the lunatic fringe talk, Abbott is personally responsible for the whole disaster.

If this stuff is going to happen, it's going to happen. It may be that the horse has bolted and closing the door will have no effect in our lifetimes. The smart money would be on dealing with the effect, not the cause, because our contribution is so small. We're at the mercy of that elephant. When it stamps its foot, we tremble, but when we raise a fuss, our tiny yap is drowned out. Remember Copenhagen?
And therefore we should do nothing ?

I never said they claimed to have accumulated the money. They do consider they saved Australia, and couldn't have done anything like they did without those accumulated funds. And I think you really know that.

Anyone know how many boats have arrived say since mid last week?

Only the Abbott inner circle I would think. And now they're hiding behind some military person, saying that the release of this information is up to him, yet he takes his orders from/through the PM. Work that out.

It's now "Don't mention the boats".

No need for plan B.....the highland cannibals have done their job.

Maybe his plan B is to just sink the boats when they enter our waters. Given the involvement of the military and language of "border protection", as far as he's concerned we're basically under invasion anyway.

The animosity and fear the public feels towards refugees is clearly quite high. Shouldn't be too hard a sell. Heck, Sydney's western suburbs will probably cheer it on.

Seems Stop the Boats wasn't a literal promise, just figurative.

Absolutely because he's been in the job for what a day and he hasn't sorted it out yet !!! That guy is a pathetic failure and to think I voted for him. Lol really

You have my sympathy. With age comes wisdom and time is a great healer. You will get over it.
