It is easy to find out what politicians are claiming as expenses. It is always publicly available here-
Parliamentarians' Expenditure on Entitlements Paid by the Department of Finance and Deregulation - Period 1 July to 31 December 2012

However I doubt bill shorten should be throwing stones.for the period 6/12 to 12/12
Brandis just under $174,000
Shorten just under $361,000.

So you are saying that because one members expenditure is more than anothers the first member must therefore be rorting the system? What evidence do you have to back up that allegation?

Either way I do not see a place for this discussion on AFF.

It detracts from what people want to post on the website as a result of their political views.

I tend to agree. This forum is no place for acrimony and party political tub-thumping.
This thread is in the "Playground" as it does not relate to any of the other areas.

It may be generalised that any "Playground" thread would not relate to frequent flying/travelling.

No-one forces any to read a 'playground' thread.

I alleged nothing of the sort I have merely pointed to the source. You are entitled to make any inference you want from that information.

I guess this is so he has time to allow Murdoch and Pell to tell him what to say ..? Button up: Abbott to keep ministers in check

That is actually a fair enough question that you directed to drron - size of expenses may have nothing to do with if they are legitimate and within the current rules - however to be fair could you provide any evidence about George Pell or Rupert Murdoch instructing what Tony Abbott says - the link you provided does not name Murdoch or Pell so I fail to see the factual basis of your numerous posts that talk about Abbott and the catholic church for instance. As you say - what evidence do you have to back up that allegation?

There are many references in the thousands of posts about Abbott /the Election about the Murdoch / Pell connection to Abbott. I dont have the time to waste going through them all.

No, you made a judgement as well:

However I doubt bill shorten should be throwing stones.

"Merely pointing to the source" would have looked more like:

Indeed drsmithy but you are the one who insists on the proper meaning of words(illegal, unlawful etc). The word doubt modifies the intention you are implying.

I read all of those posts very carefully, and none of them contain what is alleged. It is a fantasy.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

It seems that Bananaby has repaid $615.90 for a comcar that he "never took".

I must also ask how the political thriller "The Marmalade Files" relates to parliamentary, electorate or official business. I've read that story and can see no relation to any of those things, besides being a fantasy story based in Canberra and Australia.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Preface - I have a recurring nightmare where Tony Abbott is the Prime Minister of Australia and Clive Palmer has representation (and influence) in both chambers of parliament. I've tried medication but no matter how much I take ..... I always wake up and the nightmare starts all over again. Time to move past denial and on to the second stage of grief.

It is both better and worse than I thought it would be. On the eve of the latest IPCC report that strengthens the link between human activity and climate change, Tony Abbott successfully kills off the Climate Commission and tries his best to do the same with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation. So now that he is in government he has reverted to his opinion that climate science is "absolute cough"? What a surprise.

But the good news is that the budget emergency is over. Not sure what he did to fix it but that's a relief.

Oops - sorry! Shouldn't try to introduce more than one topic at a time now that Despicable T and his happy little minions are in charge. And to compound things that one topic should include sport so I really have failed to come to the party. I'll schedule my lobotomy straight away!

I implied no intention, simply pointed out that you had clearly offered an opinion despite later claiming to have not.

It seems that Bananaby...
Remember Juliar?

Tell me, please, how you think calling people such names adds to the total of human knowledge, love and happiness?

No offence, and I don't really mind, but I personally feel that those who do this as a habit are telling us more about themselves than is good.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Skyring, it certainly detracts from the way in which I (and other people reading this thread) view the poster - whether I know them in the flesh or they are a mere avatar.

I personally have no desire to partake in anything but the political discussion in this thread - the ability to rise above the petty name calling and personal attacks was something I left back at school - personally, whilst I'd like to see others rise above it, I'm not holding my breath. It does make it difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff posts though - and chews up a bit of Moderation time trying to keep the two sides apart.

Remember Matt Price. The use of Bananaby is a tribute to Matt Price. Given Matt recalled using the name to Barnaby's face and his acceptance of it in a jovial and jocular way, I'm sure Barnaby would understand the tribute as well.

A tribute to a excellent journalist taken before his time is a far cry from the disgusting name calling of the extreme right of this country. I dare say you should avoid assuming.

More bully boy tactics.

A few posts ago you wrote:I dare say you should avoid assuming.

Now, you mentioned Matt Price. I responded, asking who he was. A footballer, perhaps, I thought.

I then looked him up on Wikipedia, and I dimly remembered, but by then you'd apparently thought I was having a go at you.

I'm sorry if I offended you. None intended. You were having your own private in-joke and I didn't understand it. Sorry for that too.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

3 Coalition MP's in 2011 go to to India for a wedding courtesy of a trip by private plane with Gina Rinehart. On the way back they came back by commercial airlines and claimed the expenses as a study tour!
Coalition MPs in 'overseas study' claim for wedding
But Barnaby Joyce, Julie Bishop and Teresa Gambaro collectively claimed more than $12,000 in "overseas study" allowances to pay for flights home.

In the name of fostering stronger ties with India, Mrs Rinehart invited Australian politicians to be her guests at the wedding. The three Coalition MPs accepted, while Labor's then resources minister, Martin Ferguson, rejected the billionaire's offer, telling The Age in 2011 he did "not think it appropriate to attend". What was not reported at the time was the extent to which Australian taxpayers helped pay for the politicians' travel.

After a private jet flew him to Malaysia, Mr Joyce claimed a $5500 flight home for him and his wife from Kuala Lumpur.
The day of the flight, Mr Joyce met Malaysian officials at noon and at 3pm before flying home at 10pm.

Here are wise words of Bumbling Bananaby.

[h=3]Pearls of wisdom[/h] What Barnaby Joyce learnt on his taxpayer-funded stopover in Malaysia
'In summary, water is wealth, housing is health and roads bring the progression of social services.'
'Proximate to Kuala Lumpur and running to Singapore are substantial freeways that would look quite in place in an Australian major capital city.'
Malaysia has recently experienced high levels of economic growth which has created urban cities comparable in wealth to cities in developed countries.'

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I love how all politicians are able to make that 'last minute' personal trip to a wedding or wherever, add on an one-hour meeting with a C-grade foreign official and then claim the trip as a study trip. Anyway, the gates are opening and we will see many more of these .... stay tuned.
