Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

My electricity bill last quarter was $1400.
Personal or business? If personal then that amount is ridiculously high. Time to reduce some of the gadgets.

My bill hot out of the mailbox.. $550. for last quarter in QLD. :-|
I'm waiting for the NG solar panels to be released.
Don't you live alone?

I am going to try and keep my first quarterly electricity bill to ~$100.

John. You live in Queensland. I live in SA. Our power costs 20% more than yours does regardless of usage. And we've just had a cold winter. Our costs are from heating.

How much heating do you need? Mum just paid ~$500 in Sydney for a family of 3.5 and it was a little high for that time of the year. If you factor in 20% more that is still a long way short of $1400.

Interested to hear what you do in your house. Does everyone have 3 showers a day? Do you have dishwasher, dryer etc. We have 2 fridges at home, washing machine, 1 heater in winter, no aircon, 1 TV and 1.5 children using computers.

Not criticising. Just interested to see how the bill is that high.

And Sydney is also significantly warmer than here. Maybe compare our usage with someone who lives in a like climate, for instance Melbourne. And in summer, regular temps of 35-40 make airconds a necessity not a choice. Then add on the 20%.

If we lived in Qld then our bill would be like yours.

My parents dont live in Queensland. We have no aircon for those warm days in summer.

Apologies I am struggling to understand.

Yes, they live in Sydney? Sydney's winters are significantly warmer than ours here, so not much heating required there. Sydney's summers are not as hot as ours, hence not the same need for cooling.

But we simply get slugged for power here too, so double whammy.

Example: Origin esave plan

NSW Plan:
Consumption of first 1,000 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 27.390
Consumption of next 1,000 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 29.018
Remaining consumption kWh/qtr cents per kWh 31.328

SA Plan
Summer 1 Jan - 31 Mar
Consumption - First 300 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 35.607
Consumption - Next 700 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 38.764
Consumption - Next 1,500 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 43.758
Consumption - Next 2,500 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 47.146
Consumption - Balance cents per kWh 47.146
Winter 1 Apr - 31 Dec
Consumption - First 300 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 33.803
Consumption - Next 700 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 34.441
Consumption - Next 1,500 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 39.413
Consumption - Next 2,500 kWh/qtr cents per kWh 42.801
Consumption - Balance cents per kWh 42.801

So, 1500 kw in NSW = $273.90
1500 kw in SA = $595.00 (using summer rate)

Now do you get it?

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Based on Abbott's claim that families will be $550 per annum better off.... well hallelujah because my last 12 month of electricity bills came out to a gross total of less than $500. Abbott promised 9% reductions but this $550/annum means I will be around 110% better off. Show me the $50 refund cheque!

Do you live in a tent? Mine was about $8k!!

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

We quite like cold food in the fridge. As I said, it is for heating and we dont have any heating appliances on after 10pm.

Yes fresh food, cold beers & a warm swimming pool that's what I like :)

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Yes that was absolutely pathetic.

Too true - journalism by morons, for morons. Good thing that we are all too intelligent here to fall for it.

$8K is an obscene amount of energy at any rate, and exactly the reason for having a price on pollution.

Abbott to crack down on 457 visa abusers. Yet there is silence from the usual suspects in this thread. None of the vitriol that those people threw at the ALP for doing exactly the same as the LNP. The "born to rule" mentality at its best.

Oh and why all the off topic BS about solar power?

Maybe because they are intending to change those things we complained about-
The testing requirements were introduced by the Rudd government amid claims of "widespread employer rorting" and require companies to demonstrate that they have tried for four months to recruit Australians before nominating a foreign worker for a 457 visa. The Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Scott Morrison, said last night: "We strongly opposed these measures in opposition and will be consulting on how best to cut union red tape on 457s, while maintaining legitimate protections that support the integrity of the scheme. "The previous government made some wild and unsubstantiated claims about abuse of the scheme to ram their union-sponsored changes through the parliament."One of our first steps will be to put these claims to the test." - See more at: Cookies must be enabled. | The Australian

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Barnaby Joyce on Q&A last night - what a joke this guy is ! Surely denies the truth of the claim that cabinet positions were appointed based on merit only - if Joyce is deemed to be more capable than than every woman in the Abbott circus oops caucus (except one) then the Liberal women must be a really dumb lot. If thats the case then God help us !!

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I would rather see people being appointed by merit than just because they are female. Bragging about composition of leaders as percentages being family people, females, yada yada is a nonsense.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

And Joyce is a member of the National party meaning the Liberal members have little say in his appointment.

Oh so you mean that Tony didnt choose Barnaby, that he had no choice ... so his saying that all members were chosen purely on merit is just another lie from him?

It is a Coalition; that is the way they presented themselves at the election (and for the past several elections) and there were no cosy deals done after the election to ensure government. You perceive him to be lacking in merit; other's don't. Where is the lie?
