Abbott in Government

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Leading economists have overwhelmingly rejected Tony Abbott's direct action climate change policy and backed carbon pricing.
A Fairfax Media survey of 35 prominent university and business economists found only two believed direct action was the better way to limit Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. Thirty - or 86 per cent - favoured the existing carbon price scheme. Three rejected both schemes.

Almost no likes Abbott's carbon plan.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Tony Abbott's new direct action sceptics.

I particularly liked this comment := BT Financial's Dr Chris Caton said any economist who did not opt for emissions trading "should hand his degree back".

Now where is Joe hiding?

And I must apologise to the Muppet Show for linking them to the Coalition government ..... the correct allusion was, of course, Captain Pugwash and his ship of fools.

Wasn't 86% about the number of economists who didn't see the GFC coming?:p;)

Is that the sum total of you response? Better to have remained silent .... as the saying goes. At least Pukka just admits that Coalition voters are rarely economic geniuses.

Still pukka's reply is a joke considering a large number of Abs voters claimed to not support direct action.

Still, they probably believe Abbott when he says a market pricing mechanism is socialism.

Lol I'm not admitting anything and I don't support direct action because it's just compulsory redistribution which I'm against & Abbots right it is socialism but I think he's doing ok I'm giving him 9/10 so far.

Moody, Medhead, badgerboi, dr smithy et al you are giving him about 1/10 or less I'm guessing never mind Billy gets his chance in a few years so not too long to wait 900 sleeps or so.

Eddy Obeid gets worse day by day let's talk about that & when does Craig Thompson's case come up ? # labor is broken

You're against "compulsory redistribution" ?

So you don't think things like the police force, firefighters, education, etc, should be publicly funded then ?

Moody, Medhead, badgerboi, dr smithy et al you are giving him about 1/10 or less I'm guessing [...]
Of course. He's got a morally bankrupt, economically illiterate policy base. His entire election campaign was a smorgasboard of dishonesty and misdirection. He's shown he has no interest in trying to make the country a better place for the majority, but will happily pander to a tiny minority (including foreign powers).

The man will be an utter disaster for this country. Our very own George Bush (though with any luck, unlike his hero Howard, he won't get us involved in any wars). And people like you will cheer him on every step of the way.

I'm just glad I have multiple citizenships and can leave when things really turn south.

Yes I like the police etc just not the welfare society and the open arms welcome for economic migrants.

I think TA has the balance about right, didn't the majority vote for him? Or are you twisting that.

Then don't make in-principle arguments inconsistent with that view.

The only "welfare society" we have is amongst the well-off and wealthy. The poor have been getting screwed progressively harder for decades.

"Economic migrants" built this country. With that said, both parties have immigration policies that throw open the doors for "economic migrants", so I've got no idea what you're talking about suggesting the Liberals are against them.

From memory the Liberals took 45% of the primary vote.

But why does it matter ? I don't base my views on their popularity. Do you ? Used to be most people thought slavery was OK - would you have supported that ?

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Economic illiterate alright. Direct action isn't a market based pricing system. But I take the point that direct action is socialism. Which makes Abbott even more of a joke for claiming that the carbon tax is socialism but then replacing it with socialism. Or perhaps he is just speaking out of his backside.

The contradictions in the rest of it just highlights the problem with the arguments of the Abs-Lovers.

First Preferences By Party

The combined primary vote of the parties forming the "Coalition" amounted to 46% in the HoR.

The combined primary vote of those parties having a no ETS policy (Lib/Nat/PuP etc.) came to at least 51%.

The Ets was clearly not an election issue given all the Abbott voters who claim they disagree with the so-called socialist direct action policy.

Direct action is a steaming pile of excrement. Anyone who voted for it to get rid of the ETS is an utter fool. The only people who could possibly have voted out an ETS are those utter fools who believed the lie that it massively increase electricity prices and also didn't bother to inform themselves of the alternative direct action policy.

Speaking of which, I wonder if Hunt has found Ros Kelly's whiteboard yet.

Or perhaps he is just speaking out of his backside..

Which is par for the course for Abbott. Abbott's problem is that he committed to being anti the science in the climate change debate as part of his "appeal to the hip pocket" approach to winning the election, and he doesn't have the brains to figure out how to dig himself out of that hole. He doesnt give a sh** about the reality of the debate, he's just stuck in the sad position of having to keep on with his ignorant stance.

That's utter tripe.

I think you describe them as asylum seekers.

I was referenced in the post you replied to. All I'm really interested in saying so far there have been no real surprises, they haven't actually done much other than say "we inherited a mess from Labor SQUAWK!". So far they are living up to their promise of being a one-term government. Credlin needs to do some quick work if she and the government she's leading wish to survive.

Hockey to load up the budget deficit with another $9 billion costing the taxpayer $300 million a year, just so he can gamble on forex. Budget emergency anyone.
