Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

The difference between them spending money on themselves vs money on other people is what, exactly, from a business's perspective ?

Root canal treatment is not on many people's Xmas wish list !!!

So people often put off treatment until the new year, that's when all the lollies kick in :) Healthcare is fairly well insulated against an economic downturn but the last 6 months have been relatively quiet, I'm grateful to the health funds that's for sure.

Discretionary spending is what took the biggest hit. Anything you could do without was done without.

Actually I believe the word you used was "barren".

So the slight uptick in the last 6 weeks is a positive change from the last 6 years ? Ie: better than ?

 Sorry haven't got a clue what you're on about:confused:

Given the way most economies are staggering along why would we make ourselves less competitive?

That's exactly the point. Bare in mind that both sides of politics have committed to exactly the same carbon reduction targets.

A carbon price in one form or another is proffered by most economists for good reason. It's the simplest, cheapest, most effective way to reduce emissions.

The "direct action" policy involves spending a lot of taxpayers money in a way that will do less with it. It will be a drain on our competitiveness (higher taxes across the board but not specifically on carbon) but a much less efficient one OR it simply won't work. I suspect the latter but we will see as it actually rolls out.

Actually, just to add... There's a theory going around that direct action will morph to include the idea that you can trade government funded abatements. I.e. It will be an emissions reading scheme funded by government not polluters. Wouldn't surprise me and probably makes the best of a bad idea.

Well the bumbling fools seem to have upstaged the magnificent Mr.Rudd again-

Your assessment is ludicrous. People from both sides of politics have been advocating on behalf of these two for some time now. In the end it was the judiciary who freed them, and I am not sure if they would like the inference that it was political interference from Tony Abbott that swung the decision. Jack boot diplomacy at its best.

(Well dron started it!)

Funny that the decision came as a complete surprise to the 2 men and their lawyers. As another on this forum said repeatedly-I am entitled to my opinion. It is no more biased than yours.

What are you talking about? The story is hidden behind a pay wall.

just google the title of the article and you bypass the pay wall.As has been said a few times in these political threads.

I'm not a subscriber but was able to determine the "guts" of the story ;). In secret Abbott flew to Dubai to meet with officials and within the week the charges were dropped. It was regarded as a stunning reversal by all concerned.

TA "good old electricity Bill Shorten" lol
I can't wait for parliament to start again, I'm looking forward to some humerous CP moments

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

CP will be a part timer and he will prove it.

I don't think there's any doubt about that but I'm sure he'll be controversial when he's actually there

I really hope so. We really need a good government and a good opposition that holds them accountable but this guy is just an unhealthy distraction that will monopolise the media.

He reminds me of John for PM. Is it the bananas or the steamy weather that creates these w*nkers?
