Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I don't know what picture you are looking at, but Shorten is talking to Abbott.

Yes - I'm not quite catching Poshka's drift here (though what's new?) I suspect it may be a technical fault with their browser rather than a senior moment. There - I said a kind thing!

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

So why is Shorten hiding (with Abbott?)?

He is trying to manipulate TA into the "Hitler" position behind BB, or was this not a News Corp photographer?

Oh come on, you know the elderly have problems operating new technology. ;)

Yes, looking at it on my PC I can see him. Looking at him on an app - he's not there. Go figure. :)

OK then, why did you say Abbott was hiding and not Shorten?

And for the record, I don't *do* senior moments thanks. I'm not that old. Blonde? Maybe. :)

And as for senior moments, maybe you could spell my name correctly, or maybe you think you have, so what would that be?

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Courier Mail today "JESSICA Rudd is reportedly set to become a Labor MP and run in the seat of Griffith in the wake of her father's resignation. "

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Morrison's failure to answer questions on asylum seekers either at his weekly press conference or in Question Time is problematic. Where is the accountability? How much longer would a Haneef or Cornelia Rowe saga take to resolve satisfactorily under this new system?

A short time ago The Greens and Labor combined in the Senate to pass a (lengthy) motion forcing the government to release a large number of documents pertaining to irregular maritime arrivals. Essentially, the motion is calling for a lot more information to be made public. Senate supplementary estimates are being held next week and I expect Senator Cash will be have more than a couple of questions directed to her.

So why is Shorten hiding (with Abbott?)?

I'm not sure if your comment is directed at the apparent Photoshopping but, if it's not, it is common practice for members and senators to hold discussions behind the chair.

My Question was purely directed to:
...

Why is Tony hiding?

My implication was that if Tony is "hiding" then so is "Bill", so why not ask in relation to him as well?

They are both "hiding" becuse they are doing exactly what the picture implies - talking about Brunnhilde behind her back. I imagine the conversation went something like this :-

BS - "If you don't pull that witch into line we are going to treat this parliament to death by a thousand dissents."

TA - "Fair enough."

And did anyone see Deniability T on the 7:30 Report last night? Didn't exactly cover himself in glory trying to explain his policy of "ignorance is bliss".

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

The rest of us had 6 years of you Liberal whingers and whiners complaining everyday...

So much for the Bishop and the liberals following the rules.

Pick a liberal policy - start a thread on it - and cough and moan for as long as you like....

Prior to this year's thread re the election, please link to the thread of liberals whining about the ALP government????

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

As a catholic I am very disappointed with Tony Abbott's response to abuse by clergy.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott's support for Cardinal George Pell over child sex abuse is inappropriate and factually wrong, victims say.

Mr Abbott told Fairfax Radio that Cardinal Pell, a former Catholic archbishop of Melbourne, was the first senior cleric to take sexual abuse by clergy seriously.

Asked whether Cardinal Pell, now Archbishop of Sydney, carried any responsibility for the failures described by the report of the Victorian inquiry into the church's handling of child sexual abuse, Mr Abbott said he hadn't read it.

''As is pretty well known, I have a lot of time for George Pell … my understanding is that the first senior cleric who took this issue very seriously was in fact Cardinal Pell.''
The report, Betrayal of Trust, said the cardinal was reluctant to acknowledge and accept responsibility for the church's failings on criminal child abuse. It also strongly condemned the current Catholic leadership, saying it trivialised and minimised abuse, treated it as ''a short-term embarrassment'', and betrayed the church's purported values.

Abbott's response to child sexual abuse by clergy angers victims
I am very dismayed by all the deniers who reject or gloss over any sexual abuse by clergymen in the catholic church.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

As with any organisation where there is rampant corruption, lack of morality etc the whole senior leadership team needs to be examined and if there is the slightest doubt about their integrity then they need to be removed.

The problem is that the church is still very powerful and has enough clout not to really suffer any long term punishment or be forced to undergo meaningful reform.

I wonder if women were allowed to assume higher level and formal positions in the church would the paedophile priests have been provided succour and support for so long? I doubt it.

I think the first step would be to allow male priests to marry. Other churches that allows priests to get married have lower rates of sexual abuse.

Such a relief that this thread has become dormant. I can only put it down to the fact that those on the political right have conceded that the members of our trainee government will be wearing their L plates for a long time to come, and those on the left are gracious enough not to gloat.

Does anybody have a spare copy of the LNP Women's Auxiliary Cookbook? I'm looking for a decent nasi goreng recipe, and since Senator Michaelia Cash has been yammering on about being Indonesia's best friend I'm pretty sure that she would have made a worthy contribution.

You're living in cloud cuckoo land. Labor are woeful on opposition you should listen to question time.

Full steam ahead Tony.

Just because Labor are woeful in opposition it doesn't mean the Liberals are competent in government.

I'm actually really enjoying question time. I think the new speaker is excellent but I do concede there is a slight bias

She's certainly making some, err, "brave" choices. Bronnie is certainly the icing on the cake as far as the trainee govt's decision to make sure that everyone is appointed to a position that's beyond their ability.
