Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I'd be ducking for cover with the Indonesian spy thing. Funny watching Shorten with the serious expression knowing it is his Government's issue.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Your boy Tony is certainly failing his first big test here. No surprise of course.

Which test? Cleaning up the Labor Govt's diplomatic business with Indonesia in 2009? No surprise there of course. Will be the first of many clean-ups no doubt.

This was an easy thing to deal with and Tony failed. Security matters are fairly bipartison and the Libs knew what was going on and supported it. Basically whichever government is in office gets to deal with it.

In the meantime President Credlin is going into meltdown keeping her troops silent. Why on earth would she have pulled Bishop Jr from next week's Qanda already?

The test of looking like a leader and handling a crisis. Major fail here, not even the most rabid of his apologists could deny that. Happy to clarify for you.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Tapping of phones and general spying is nothing but a storm in a tea cup......it'll blow over before play resumes after the big break at the GABBA tomorrow.

Not something I've heard.

Isn't the Indonesian Foreign Affairs guy educated in Australia and a known Labor supporter? He seems to be the one stirring the pot.

Actually I couldn't care less if Indonesia played around. It's hardly of interest to most people in Australia. And most would agree the phone tapping by Labor was acceptable anyway.

Yes it is a relatively minor issue but it will not be over by 10am Qld time tomorrow.
It could have been over last Monday but will now take a little longer.
TA should be focussing and doing things on more important matters.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

And according to DSD operatives tapping a leaders phone has to be authorised by a Cabinet minister.Joel Fitzgibbon should be the one apologising.
And what about the ABC and the Guardian who say they only found out about this a week ago.Even though Mr.Sowden says he took nothing to Russia.
Why release this now?
Shows the absolute bias of the ABC who give diddely squat importance to Australia's national interest.
And the Left's fanbois are already cheering.
Disgusting.

This is the thing really. No ALP or LNP politician has been critical of the policy but the handling of it is what we need to be focusing on. I agree that its a storm in a tea cup and no doubt the Indonesian government is more concerned with the next election rather than Australia doing the same thing I'm sure they are doing.

I assume it will blow over, but TA needs to be careful how he handles it otherwise he is going to provide ammo to the opposition.

Nobody is cheering, and you're well aware of that. It's an appalling state of affairs, and your boy Tony (acting under instruction from an unelected staffer) is doing nothing to help the situation.

Fitzgibbon or whoever was the ALP minister at the time is no longer responsible and has no role in the current dispute. The Australian people have already made that decision at the election.
But I agree with you about Ministerial responsibility which should be applied in all cases, not just this one.

There is no evidence of media bias. An American operative has spilled the beans through a breakdown in their systems/procedures/people.
If Governments did not want Snowden's information reported in the media they should have made sure there was no breakdown.

I think appalling is rather overstating it. And there's not much the opposition can do about it.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

The appalling relates to the media.Earlier today was a spectacularly biased Fairfax headline-now redacted but it still comes up on google-
[h=3]News for Tony abbott is sprung snooping

  1. [h=3]After Tony Abbott is sprung snooping, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono launches bitter twitter tirade[/h]
Sydney Morning Herald ‎- 12 hours ago
It's always awkward, isn't it, to get caught snooping? Whether it's rifling through your spouse's pocketbook when you think they're in the loo, ...

Though the headline has been changed the text remains unchanged and accuses Tony abbott of the snooping-
It's always awkward, isn't it, to get caught snooping? Whether it's rifling through your spouse's pocketbook when you think they're in the loo, or mounting a highly sophisticated 3G phone surveillance operation on the head of state of your professed ally and then boasting about it to your superiors in a PowerPoint presentation, well, you're going to feel a mite sheepish when surprised in the act.
And when you're caught, you can go one of two ways: prostrate yourself before the object of your snooping; or - and we'll call this the ''Abbott model'' - offer an apology, couched firmly in the passive tense, for ''any hurt or embarrassment caused'', without naming yourself as the direct cause of these emotions. And then imply that they should have expected you to do it anyway so you're not really sure what the big fuss is about.

Now if this had been News Ltd doing something like this to the ALP there would be an outcry from the left.Read any Fairfax paper and see the number of articles critical of TA or the Libs.Bias in the extreme.
It also irritates me the absolute ignorance of the science when the Greens along with Fairfax and the ABC try to link the NSW bushfires and the recent typhoon in the Phillipines to climate change when there really is no evidence.Anything to have a go at the Government.

And Badger boi Tony Abbott is not my boy.I didn't vote for him.I just dislike the ALP and it's claiming of the moral superiority.Mr. Tripodi is not an isolated case.

Probably ordered it under instructions from his Chinese [-]girlfriend[/-] pay masters.

Well, it is TA that is keeping it going by keeping talking about it in Parliament and the media. Needs to get on with the job. Has TA changed his media approach?

ABC....hahaha, they have story after story about how terrible it is that men get paid more than women. Then this story breaks

EVEN in that bastion of political correctness - Our ABC - it seems that women are being paid less to do the same work as men.

and then they whinged about how the story shouldn't have leaked

ABC managing director Mark Scott has ordered an investigation and apologised to staff after his top presenters' salaries were leaked. - See more at: Cookies must be enabled. | The Australian

Terrific stuff:lol::lol::lol::lol:
