Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Plenty of evidence up thread.....no need to flood the thread with more examples of 3rd rate ABC journalism and hypocritical rubbish. The ABC is good for weather reports and that's about it......I hear it's not a bad place to work if you're a man and want to get paid more than the women working next to you. But I digress.
I think the picture you posted back in #1589 is the most apropos response to this.

BTW it's your coalition/Gov unless you've left Oz and won't be coming back;)
I didn't vote for them, and specifically put them as last preference in both houses. They don't represent my beliefs and are not "my" Government.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

I would have liked an apology from the last Government for putting our nation deeply into debt just as the post war baby boomers had started shuffling out of the work force. The previous two PMs were so into themselves that all the stupid stuff will be missing when they write their memoirs. They have no shame for buggering up a country in 6 years of mistakes and mismanagement of Australia's finances.
I'd like an apology for the Government before that created the biggest run-up in property prices and private debt in this nation's history, the consequence economic catastrophe that it will eventually cause, the generation (if not two) they practically shut out of owning their own home, the suppression of typical worker's wages and rights, the massive sell-off of public assets, the gutting of numerous public institutions and service, the increase in income inequality, demonising the poor, demonising refugees, normalising middle-class welfare, the decrease in class mobility, the sacrifice of real industry, innovation and entrepreneurialism for the sake of the FIRE sector, and numerous other consequences of their adherence to broken-by-design neoliberal philosophy.

The public debt from the last Government is a sideshow in comparison to the real problems.

I think you'll find they're everyone's government like it or not. I'd have liked to have opted out of the last government but had to lump it for 6 years I'm afraid you'll have to do the same, but hopefully for longer.

Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

Well we now have an official broken promise by the Abbott government as called by Neil Mitchell, right wing shock jock on 3AW.

Christopher Pyne (education minister) is refusing to honour the Gonski education reforms that were negotiated by the former Labor government with several (Liberal) state governments.

I guess the right wing apologists will find an excuse to say it was a non-core promise and not really a lie.

Just calling it as I see it! Along with other trolling behaviour...

It's the Government and it's your Government:D

Yep. Broken promise. Shouldn't have happened. At least we admit to broken promises unlike those in the Gillard camp who would have denied the fact and called it "changed circumstances" or such other nonsense.

He's not going the Gonski route but the same monies are available. He's just distributing to all states not just those who signed up.

Time will tell. Me thinks it's more about shifting the attention away from Indo...

If you define something as a "huge monstrous terrible terrible lie" because of a sound bite from one interview, I've got some bad news for you about the Coalition.

Sums it all up perfectly......

Oh yeah baby !!! Abbott and Pyne are up to their collective a***s in the same s**t that they spouted for those years in opposition. Of course they will try to say that they haven't blatantly lied .. just been a little flexible with the truth !!!

Did you miss the bit where they stated the same $ amounts were still going to be handed out. And really, if you can't post without swearing then it says more about you than the topic.

Did you miss the part where they are changing the model?? funding is only half the issue. Money needs to go where it is needed... and that is what the model achieves...

Presumably not enough public money being funnelled into private schools under the old model.

Sorry if I offended your obviously delicate sensitivities .. but the arrogance and hypocrisy of Abbott and Pyne are more than enough to make a saint swear.

So, please tell me how the Gonski model worked and why it was the answer to the falling educational standards in our schools? Throwing money at schools is not the way to improve standards btw.

I swear sometimes myself but am aware that when I do so it means that I am not really in control of my thoughts. ;)

You said that the libs are committed to providing the same funding and implied that there was no cause for concern..... The Libs will throw money at the schools using a "simpler, flatter" model which I bet will be not too different to the current model which does not work...

Gonski allocates needs based funding to individual schools using a base payment per student and a loading factor for disadvantages students... if students move schools, school funding will be influenced. It's a fair system, a system which was developed with the academic community and now Pyne is throwing all that hard work away and won't even meet with the board who put it together.... Pretty hypocritical to not even understand and consult with the board who put in 3 years of work in to the model reforms.
