Thanks - just saw that as well in the Daily Telegraph - cheers. Just need to now try and get tickets and work out if I can take a three year old out that late at night...
You'd think tickets would be easy enough.
I've already booked flights to Sydney as a classic award just in case west coast do make it past the pies. Can't go to Melbourne this week unfortunately.
On a similar note, it was kind of interesting listening to the radio on the way to uni this morning. Interviewing a T/A about flights, availability, any extra flights and things like that, cue people ringing about how they can't afford to pay $700 for flights. Fair enough, don't go then! I get rather tired of people thinking airlines are a charity.
In AFL finals if I think my team is a decent chance to get through I will pre-emptively book and just swallow the change/cancel cost on QF/DJ. This is where classic awards are at their most useful, as the cancel fee is only 5,000 pts per pax per booking. One can save a lot of money if willing to take the risk, plus for me it isn't really a risk, I know I will spend the money sometime in the year anyway so a credit never goes to waste.
For A-League finals it is usually a different story, the demand isn't there as much unless it's a grand final, so return flights are usually $600 or less. If heading to New Zealand, then it is pricier, but the one time I've had to do it, I got a classic award to Wellington at 5 days notice and paid about $500AU for the flight back (QF), so that was good value.
