The Aussies could lose by an innings this morning.

Let's see how they fare against the Kiwis in rugby tonight.

Bye bye Clarke. If only you'd quit before the start of the Ashes.

Maybe QF will quit as proud sponsor

Even with the losses, having the logo on their shoulders and chests as the camera zooms in on them at the crease is too good an advertising spot to pass up.

In other news, really enjoyed watching the cricket this evening! :D

I turned on the TV as the day started and went to put the kids to bed. By the time I came back, GEM were already showing a movie. The dismissals were disappointing. Not unsurprising that Clarke is retiring after the next Test. The horse has bolted and time for another captain (Smith??) to take over

Shame to see Clarke go. Also a shame his average dropped below 50.

All the blame can't be put on the batsmen. The bowlers are awful. Unable to adapt to different conditions.

There will be wholesale changes. Some should never play test cricket again. I feel sorry for Smith. He will be in charge of rebuilding in similar circumstances to Allan Border but could also end up emulating Kim Hughes instead.

Clarke could have vacated the captaincy and kept playing, as when in form is still one of our better Batsmen, but maybe calling it quits because of his hammy and Phil Hughes death.
While Mark Taylor had a big slump at the backend of his career but kept playing.

Commentators seemed to suggest that when an Australian loses captaincy he also stops playing. Seems like a silly tradition if he might still have fight in him but want to pass the baton so to speak.

Ponting vacated the captaincy in similar circumstances but played on and had a good season but then faded away and retired before they dropped him.

Ponting didn't suffer injury problems though unlike Clarke who has been plagued by back problems his whole career. That's what affecting his batting - no flexibility and the Poms knew it. Relieved of the captaincy he probably wouldn't do a lot better.

Let' hope this debacle (as opposed to all the previous debacles of the last 7 years) finally results in some real change. That can only happen from the top though where the almighty dollar is more important than the game.

Perhaps his reasons are other than what he has advised - if one believes the hacks:
No Cookies | The Courier-Mail

So how about we get new coach, new selectors and a new captain - then not let WAG's tour. That'll surely keep their minds on cricket...

Maybe a team manager ("chef de mission" type, as in major sporting events)

As we all know, rugby is the only game that matters now.

Yes, the Wallabies are undefeated since the andyes have been Australian citizens (most of us are conflicted on Ashes/Cook Cup matches however)

Wow the knives have really come out from past players. All these stories about elitism etc which Clarke denies.

A friend claimed that the Australians threw their innings (the 60) to get rid of Clarke. Seems to have worked if that was the intention!
