Ashes Cricket in England 2013

A little disappointing that England's 12th man (the weather) chose the last day to make a play.

KP it's a gentlemans game - mouthing off when the worlds cameras are on you isn't the best. You may go down as one of the worlds best batsmen but you'll be better remembered as having one of crickets biggest egos. BTW, it's a team sport so suck it up.

So we take away that Australia has learnt to play like the English - just 3 Tests too late. Will somebody burn some Ashes and give them to the English...

The Australians have been caught out doing similar, I think even the coach was in the prior test, so it happens everywhere.

Good draw :)

When's the next test? Friday.

Disappointing first innings from Lyon.

I'd say it's near certainty (barring injury) that the Aussie lineup will be unchanged for the 4th test. But i'd rather see a 19yo (Agar) get 1/100 than a guy later in his career (and the 1 was the #9!).

England's batting looks a little fragile, and has done since India. They were exposed in New Zealand and haven't really performed as a unit since.

I know we are always seeking perfection but one thing is certain. Lyon is not a match winner nor is he the go to guy when you need a wicket.

A lot of positive signs from this test which will hopefully continue for the rest of the series.

Hardly at the end of his career Lyon is only 25 , Swann is 34 and played his first test at the age of 29 and don't forget Lyon has only played test cricket for two years.

He'll be at the end of his career if he doesn't start taking wickets!

Read an amusing letter in the SMH this morning.
"As if the Aussies haven't cried enough I note England are taking Onions to the fourth test"

Lyon looks like he's 35 due to being follicularly challenged.

Watson appears to be in the side as a 5th bowler as far as I can tell. He's quite a good bowler but doesn't bowl long enough to take wickets, more than one anyway. Preserving his fitness I suppose. Maybe he should bat at 8 or 9.

I know test is over but here is a hypothetical.

Let's say Australia does not declare at 527/7d and continues batting making 600+ runs. That would have been possible considering Haddin and Starc were batting very well and already on an unbroken 97 run partnership. England does not avoid the follow on and are sent back in to bat and rolled over on day 4.

Possible?

I know test sides are very reluctant these days to send the opposition back in after someone lost a test a few years ago after sending the opposition back in. Was that Australia?

Really! No hot spot but does the third umpire have access to snikko? Or is it just the TV commentators?

Snicko is not part of the DRS system as not all coverage partners have the technology.

Presumably if silicon tape is being used it would only be applied to the outside edge of the bat?

Follicurlarly challeneged sounds better than bald for those of us challenged!
OT but Warks voucher will be in the post tomorrow so you should receive next week.

Just sitting at Belushi's in Hammersmith watching the ashes. England 0/34. How Aussie. I didn't get the Aussie burger though....
