Australian Cricket Season 2023-2024

You do enjoy taking a pessimistic view. If they got a couple of wickets it would have been considered a good strategy.

They are playing elite sport - they are playing to win not for a draw

Disagree. England threw down the gauntlet for the win, and in which case also made the match entertaining. With the cricket world being totally dominated by 20 over hit and bash, it's games like this that might bring back Test cricket to the fore.

Oooooof Garth only mm away from being dismissed for a diamond duck on debut! Eeesh!

Ecllestone doing all the damage so far.

Would Australia have sent England to bat had they won the toss?

Time to experiment and blood some new bowlers.
coughmins being interviewed after the lost toss said he would have done the same if he won - sent them in.

As far as outcomes go after losing the toss on a pitch the same colour as the outfield, I'd take 339/5 every single day. Pity about Head and Green at the end, but still Australia's day. Hopefully Smudger tons up again.

Maybe the Just Stop Oil protestors were simply trying to add some colour to the pitch with their orange dye packets? Brave (foolish?) of Bairstow to catch and drag one, could've gone wrong if the protestor decided to fling the dye in his face.

All the English commentators unloading on Bazball is hilarious, especially since the day was caused by simply not doing the fundamentals (bowling good lengths, consistently) right that's allowing Australia to bat, not anything major tactically. Stokes at the moment is sliding more towards the specialist captain though...

Muse:

By the tea interval, Kevin Pietersen, on commentary, was ready to spontaneously combust at the friendliness England had shown the batsmen at the rain breaks and summed up their efforts in one word: “Shambles”. And he knows a dressing-room shambles when he sees one.

Apart from Josh Tongue, no one averaged above 82mph and there was a point during the evening session when there were three substitutes on the field: one for Ollie Pope, nursing a shoulder in need of icing, one for James Anderson, who pulled up chasing a ball up the hill, and another for Ollie Robinson, taking his customary breather before a new spell. Anderson was not off the field for long but for the second time in a few days he was passed over when a new ball became available.

This is an attack that is so old and so creaking that it has every chance of being invited to perform at next year’s Glastonbury...

This felt like a day when Bazball ran out of road. But maybe we will find that, rather like the Norwegian parrot, it is not dead, merely resting.

The West Indies have lost to Scotland to be knocked out of the ICC World Cup.
My how they've fallen.

and Stokes is finally OUT

Player # 55 toked the fire for 155

7/301

70 or bust
8 for and 69er to win

following a mini Tongue Lashing for 19, he's yorked and Australia win

series 2-0 and in the entire Ashes history, only one team has ever come back from that result (Australia in 1936-37!)

And they now need to clear the Long Room between sessions.
i think the MCC will sort that out. Won't hear about it though. Not as though they will be playing there again for four years so those ancient members won't likely be around then. The long room is an interesting place and they treat it with more reverance than Westminster Abbey.
