Australian state border restrictions

$278 and a few clicks later and my trip to Cairns next week rerouted via Sydney. I'd better enjoy the QF Gold (doing the Fast Track) as it's just become a $2k J class ticket. They'd better not switch out the A330 leg either 😂
Did you change the routing via the web site? I could only change the date, so I had to call ( which was OK).

I'm a bit ignorant to the QF site... first flight I've booked with them in at least a decade... but:

I clicked the "Change" button on the Booking page and it let me choose a new flight option (originally ADL MEL CNS). From memory it would let me change the day also. Although it was booked as ADL CNS not as a multi stop trip if that makes a different. I'd say it would've been a saver business fare bucket (or whatever QF calls it).

Ah the QF website. I was able to reroute my DSC booking (was MCY-MEL-SYD, changed to MCY-SYD), and the new ticket arrived soon after. But not Mrs Pineapple's half price booking on the same flights, where change was greyed out. Took about 20 mins to get through to the premium line, not too bad given the flight is tomorrow. Just need the changed booking to reticket now. 🙄

Does anyone know if it is ok to transit through Melbourne airport one my way to SA. I read Qld allows this just could not find anything for SA.

Found it on the health site, could not find anything on the police sight. So as long as you don't leave the airport you are fine.

Unsurprisingly I find that easy to believe.

But I did read SA removed passengers from the Ghan that had been in Melbourne but the rest of the passengers they would have mingled with where fine.
Yes I found that bizarre too. I think the Victorians were also placed in mandatory HQ. Imagine booking a 3 day trip on the Ghan and ending up with 14 days of HQ at your own expense!

I'm fairly certain unlike WA, NT and QLD, we aren't locking people up for 14 days. They're quarantined until they can return home.

Don’t think anyone off the Ghan copped 14 days - just needed a couple of nights until a negative test result, which is taking around 72 hours in the NT currently 🙁

This. Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction

Well given that SA thought a guest who shared a room with COVID case 24 hrs a day didn't warrant also being shipped to the 'special' hotel....they are probably not at all concerned about the Ghan situation.

Well I have my QR code "visa" for Tas now. They required we create an account in one of their systems, but overall it went smoothly enough. The message on their site said that because we were arriving after 30/5 then more rigmarole required (well that's my interpretation).

Glad we are flying direct - usually we do the indirect via MEL from SYD to either LST or HBA to get our 4 trips tucked away for QFF. But the visit this week is on a points booking so not counted as flights for status.

More rigmarole??!! I haven't done WA, but Tas is already more than the other states. Yes, I just checked - there is MORE stuffing around on-line! Before you just did the details and got a link to QR code sent to you. Maybe having an account means you do it just the once. Or maybe the bureaucrats just wanted more stuffing around.

I came into Hobart yesterday (Saturday). There, when you deplane (onto the tarmac), there will between 350 and 150m walk along the outside of the terminal (some parts even under cover!!). If there is a plane load in front of you, the queue to enter the building may be long. Then queue for a temperature check (2 units) - if you are tall, you'll have to bend down to fit into the scanning area (!), then keep moving, still in a queue, to front one of 6 screening posts, packed tightly (!!) just in the terminal. Brief interview, asked about Victoria, show the QR code and then get bags after the sniffer dogs give you and hand-luggage the once-over. Welcome to Tasmania.

It's things like this that will make me want to buy a caravan. Unfortunately due to lack of funds I may have to settle for a tent and wait till spring for it to warm up.

Interesting arrival off QF1788 into MCY tonight. QF ground crew lady rushed over to baggage carousel as the bags started to arrive and announced noone was to leave please until QPS (who weren't about) questioned all arriving PAX. Most hung around for the 10 minutes or so till the rozzers arrived for due questioning. We got brownie points for having a tripit itinerary at the ready and not having been to MEL for 18 month. I suspect anyone without bags had disappeared into the night, and a few who ignored or didn't hear the announcement just wandered off also. Rental car lady reckoned QF got a call from Sydney, so possibly they were looking for a feral traveller - a close contact maybe. The whole exercise was a bit keystone cops really.

With the lockdown tipped to be extended for at least 3 days it could be at least a few weeks I guess before the state border restrictions start to come down again.

An extension of at least 7 days for Greater Melbourne. They "think" they can start to ease restrictions after that, but I don't trust them to get it right.

So many long weekend interstate travel plans will definitely be cancelled which will be another big disappointment for airlines and tourism operators.
