Australian state border restrictions

A day too late but SA has now banned predeparture tests for Qld.
Good. No other state should cop the cost for demands of other states.

After all, abolition of internal tarriffs was one of the key reasons why the Federation movement gained enough traction to become reality in the 1880s.

Zipping down to Tassie they still have their funny little sheds built airside arrival and so many public servants milling around in them looking very bored and texting on their phone, scrolling through instagram.

Jumped up in excitement to scan QR codes. Cursory glance at some people’s ‘test result text’ but absolutely not checking closely.
Which is exactly what the Premier said would happen from the start - 'spot checks'. For someone who keeps telling us about the situation in Tasmania ( from your vantage point in Queensland), I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Now that your are here, note the "devastated tourism industry" and general state "paralysis" - if you can get a booking, that is.

Oh goodness no you have an incredibly positive view of the state of public health systems tech in Australia though 😂.

This is why I’ve kept saying all this pre arrival declaration stuff is a complete facade. Nothing is linked and even if it was some authorities do not even have access to check if they wanted to. Just fear and control measures.
I have a colleague who had multiple Qld passes all at once, with different types of entries. There seemed to be no provision in the system to prevent this.

There are several ways of presenting another perspective.

I just shared a personal experience in crossing a state border I thought would be interesting for those not sure what to expect.. oh well

The biggest issue seen at this ‘check point’ seemed to be that the portable aircon machine had broken down and four bored people were standing around pointing at it 😆 Very Fawlty Towers! Taxpayers money hard at work!

I actually accidentally did the same for Tassie because I forgot I’d done it, did it again then saw in my phone sms trail I had two approved passes. Whoops 😂

I had two with SA for approval which I found curious, trouble is, that meant I was being pinged twice a day asking me to confirm I'd entered. Same name, DOB and mobile number and SA Gov account.

With all the state borders (ex WA of course) looking thankfully jammed open now for good - do we think the airlines will extend their flexi change polices beyond end April now state border restrictions are being peeled back to nothing?

VA is already flexible policy until 30th April.

Unsure of QF.

Don't care about Rexy. Sorry I really don't!

International for all I think is end of 2022.

People who get COVID and need to iso will still need flexibility. Plus peace of mind when booking something far ahead (eg what if a new variant appears)

I had a long chat this morning with someone involved in Tasmania's Covid response. The Public Health officials are literally wetting themselves. They want the border closed. This is what @RooFlyer has been saying about our CHO for ages. According to this source it is the Premier insisting on open borders but backed up strongly by his Deputy and Health Minister.

Interesting! Hopefully Gutsy can hold his nerve for a bit longer then it will be moot.

I guess the phrase "based on Public Health advice" might be missing from future press conferences 🙂

Too late now even if they wanted to. Omicron is already ripping around down here amplified by lots of family Christmas parties yum yum says Omicron 😂

The front page of the Exaggerator today just shows how far behind some peoples mindsets are though!

Or, why should any State pay for the cost of PCR tests for holidaymakers?
I agree wholeheartedly, why should any taxpayer pay for a holiday. My idea months ago was if a state wants to stimulate tourism by offering a rebate if you stay for X days or weeks in hotels, spend X amount on local business etc than that's a business decision.

The pathology free for all was wrong from the minute it was announced as being allowed for travel which then allowed the states to put the restrictions in without concern to the real consequences.

I guess that just proves how totally out of touch many people in public health are, especially those in higher roles.

A clear indication that they have no ability to see outside of their extremely limited speciality and should never have been given such great powers.
