Australian state border restrictions

Out of touch is what a colleague who had a child test positive told me yesterday. Child is 6 years old. Dept of Health called them several times. Instruction for child to be put in own room and kept there. Food to door. Should be taken to bathroom when required but full mask and no one else in the house nearby, only one adult to supervise.

I just laughed. These people live so far from reality that they expect a parent to not comfort their young child who is sick, and has very high anxiety/emotions.

Why the anxiety? Because - and here's the kicker - she knew she had COVID and has spent most of the last 2 years being told how scary it is, how it's the reason for her not being at school for long periods and how she can give it to others.

Then there's the fact she is 6 and, you know, kinda needs Mum and Dad to give her a cuddle and tell her everything will be ok.

We don’t pay public servants to be logical or practical. We pay them…. Actually what do we pay them for?

We pay public servants to give unbiased and practical advice to politicians. Now what do we pay politicians for? Given that most have been AWOL for the last two years; excepting of course, the figure-heads basking in their dictatorial powers.

State pay for the cost of PCR
Not the States. Medicare
Though the State run ones are at the cost of the State I think.

I don’t think they can refuse it to a Medicare eligible patient for any domestic reasons - IIRC it’s part of the Medicare agreement with the states. International travel yes

The States are the hypocritical ones - they are happy to lock their border under Constitutionally dodgy ground and Queensland hospitals are for Queenslsnds even though Medicare arrangements forbid that. But they will never touch the part where their state citizens can seek treatment in another state.

As a public servant, thanks to the very few people on here who have ever defended us.

Whilst not in medical, I can assure everyone that our key role is to serve the interests of the public. It would be easy for government to hand money to medical/construction/education companies - my role is to keep them honest. Without that, the sole purpose of the companies (profit) would be the sole outcome of any funding.

My boss explains it like this to explain the problem that was (as it’s slowly going away as the CHO’s fade into the background more and more).

It’s like the PM asking a climate scientist alone how to save the planet and the climate scientist saying well it would be easiest if we just culled 90% of the population. It’s probably technically correct advice but taken in isolation with no checks and balances or other views becomes too pointy and narrow….

The public health (servants) that people are frustrated with have a very narrow remit because they are specialists providing tight specialist advice. It’s always right to listen to them, but at some point there needed to be some balance brought in.

Honestly the fault lies squarely with the political machine - of all colours.

So other than the fact you can’t get a RAT in most of Australia - if you could - am I to assume Queensland don’t want to see any evidence you’ve taken the test? No photo or anything?

Declaration only but couldnt hurt to have a dated photo on hand.

Common sense would have been for supervised self test at point of arrival, if they wanted assurance of a real result.

Im glad i rushed out to stock up on RATs last Wednesday when they were plentiful, pays to plan ahead.

The photo could be from anything though.
You could run it under a tap for all they know.
ADL hasn’t even been asking if you have had one let alone want proof. Even if they did there is no way to check currently

They were sold out within an hour or so once they were allowed to be used in SA. I've sourced some online and told son in UK to being in several next week when they return for their purposes. Also suggested to brother who's returning from ACT today to also get some for his family.

Ain't none left in the ACT Pushka. There were last week but not now. We picked up some a few weeks back and would have got more now if they were still around.:(

Effective 6:00pm Friday, 31 December 2021, Queensland and South Australia will transition to the ‘extreme risk’ category under WA’s controlled border arrangement.
This means travel will not be permitted from QLD and SA into WA unless approved under the strictest conditions.

He did manage to get two for his return to SA and his son who lives there and is in Air Force is rather clued up by such things and likely had a stash. 😂

Waiting for the first person to upload a pregnancy test instead…
Funny you should say that. I was in the supermarket today and thought I'd chanced upon a stash of RAT kits and gleefully reached for a packet. Then sheepishly returned the pregnancy test kit to the shelf 🙄😳🤬

Exactly. But hey let’s shovel more money at the big diagnostic and med health companies for fun :)
